UNLV

The Rebels have their first four-game regular-season winning streak since 1984, Up next is Fresno State, they may win realistically two more games, but, hey, we can dream of a 7-0 winning streak.
My assessment too. I'd say no chance at Fresno State and very unlikely to beat Utah State, even in a home game. That would mean they need to win two of their other four (@ Nevada, @ Air Force, vs SJSU, vs San Diego State). I would say that is not at all out of the question.

Anything more than that is gravy, esp. if they can beat UN-Reno, a rivalry as heated as UM vs. MSU

As a graduate of both UM and UNLV, and a resident of Las Vegas, you are 100% incorrect. Maybe they care in Reno, but most people in Vegas don't even know this game happens. Only a handful of people in Southern Nevada even care about this game. Comparing it's intensity to that of the brawl is just silly.
So, you've never heard of the Fremont Cannon.

Of course I have heard of it. But just because two schools play for possession if some object doesn't mean that they have a heated rivalry that a lot of people actually care about. I'm not saying UNLV isn't a rival of Reno, but it certainly isn't anywhere near the intensity of UM/MSU. It's idiotic to say it is.
See this link: http://unlv.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid=1093&tid=193092242&mid=193092242&sid=915&style=2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. It may not be as heated as UM/MSU, but it is the most important game for Rebel fans. BTW, I'll post more links as time gets closer to the UNLV/UN-R game. (Note: I said, "UN-R," not "Nevada.")

i don't think booby will be at unlv very long. he may luck out and get 6 wins this year, but i don't think it will last.

I have seen more people at Torrey Pines than in Sam Boyd Stadium...and that was 16 years ago.

Fun trying to get out of there too isn't it? Took me almost an hour to go from the parking lot to the last flagman on the main road which is about 200 yards. I can see why people get sick of that in a hurry, they didn't put enough thought into traffic control when they built that place. It's like having 200 cars showing up at your kegger on the end of a dirt road and the cops show up...there's nowhere to go.

Thanks for proving my point. I never said it wasn't a rivalry. I simply said that comparing it's intensity to UM/MSU is foolish.

You could be right, or ... we could be underestimating the tolerance for football pain in Las Vegas.

The last time a UNLV team won as many as 6 games was a decade ago (2003) and that did not get them into a bowl game. After that, and before Hauck, their average season was 3-9. They last went to a bowl game in 2000.

Since 1990, UNLV has been to a bowl game just two times (1994, as well as 2000). But even with a few good years, their average record has been 3.5-8 ... including a 1-11 and an 0-11 season.

With that kind of history, even a 5-7 record starts to look not so bad ... 6-6, with a trip to the [Toilet] Bowl would be Nirvana.

With my family there I spend a lot of time is Vegas. Let me assure you that a UNLV game is a day trip for sure. With the time it takes to get in and out and how long the games can feel at times watching a team that is not so good, holy crap it is a long day. The thing that always gets to me though is what a weak job they do advertising to get people to the games and to buy into being a fan. You are up against every type of entertainment in the world in that town and the advertising theory seems to be "pretty pretty please come out and watch us play even though we are not very good and you could be doing so many other more interesting things with your time"

Part of the problem? Basketball is listed first (alphabetical order? )
Question: Does UNLV BBall still draw better than football? I'll bet it does ... by a lot.

Considering the success they have had on the court over the past 5 or 6 years yea I would say that they draw more than football. But it could change you never know

It probably doesn't hurt that you can walk to the Thomas and Mack from the Strip for the out-of-town crowd.

Some Basketball games are the toughest ticket to get in this town that has all types of world class entertainment. That being said... Take a cab from the strip. From the closest strip resort its a 40 minute walk through a miserable "neighborhood" if you can call it that. Or just stay in the Hard Rock area. Then it's not too bad, although the neighborhood still kind of sucks.

That is what I thought.
