MBBALL UNLV scouting report

UNLV will be an interesting team to watch the Griz take on tomorrow night as they have a new coach and only 1 returning player from last season. Coach Josh Pastner's practices so far have emphasized conditioning, communication and a standard of high effort, especially with defense and rebounding.

UNLV has been playing a primarily 9 man rotation in their first 2 games. Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn who is a dynamic opportunity creator for the Rebels led the team in minutes and points in their first game. He creates pressure at the point of attack putting the rim and paint under stress simultaneously. The Rebels had a more balanced rotation of players in their second game. UNLV has one 7' player but he has not been part of their rotation. The Rebels primary post player is 6'9" and also their only returning player from last year so this is a game where the Griz will not be at a huge size disadvantage.

A new coaching staff and only 1 returning player means a lot is unknown about UNLV after only 2 games. They lost to UT Martin their first game who the Griz should be better than but they followed this up by a much stronger and more balanced game against Chattanooga on Saturday. Do you think the Griz will be able to pull off the upset?

The gogriz.com article mentioned that UNLV was missing 4 guys in their season opener against UT Martin. IDK if they got any of those guys back for their game on Saturday against Chattanooga, but they definitely played a lot better on Saturday. One interesting thing about that Chattanooga game was the Mocs played at Saint Mary's on Friday night, and then immediately flew to Vegas and played UNLV on Saturday. No day off in between to travel. That's incredibly tough and may have played a factor in the game.

I think we got a chance but we can't turn the ball over 20 times like we did against Stanford. Decuire needs to trim down the rotation too!

They had a guy play a few minutes against Chattanooga that wasn’t against UT Martin but for the most part the rotation were the same guys both games.
