UND fires Mussman

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota director of athletics Brian Faison announced on Monday that head football coach Chris Mussman has been relieved of his duties effective immediately.

“Coach Mussman and I met this morning at which time I shared with him my decision to make a change in our football leadership,” Faison said. “I want to thank Chris for his service to UND and wish him well in his future endeavors.”

Mussman recently completed his sixth season as head football coach at UND with a career record of 31-34. He joined the UND coaching staff as the offensive line coach in 1999. Mussman was elevated to offensive coordinator in 2001 and took over as the head coach prior to the 2008 season.

Before arriving at North Dakota, Mussman spent eight seasons at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Mussman was a four-year letterwinner and starting offensive lineman at Iowa State, serving as a team captain in 1990.

Faison added that a national search for a new head coach will being immediately.

People forget that UND used to be very competitive with NDSU towards the end of their D2 years. I suspect that people in Grand Forks expect to get back to that level very soon.

Burton is the guy who should go. His teams are undisciplined and seem to under perform expectations/talent level every year.

I was just thinking that Pflu should put in for the HC @ UND, but do you think he has crack at Weber HC - or would he be out the door with him?

I don't think this year for UNC. We have a new A.D. coming in January. He hasn't had a boss the entire football season during the search process.

I could see Pflugrad at the helm in UND or any other Big Sky School. The witch hunt is over and Pflugrad was never really to blame. Hiring him would be pretty safe move to be honest for UND.
