UM's search for new AD is now underway!

And sadly, it sounds like Engstrom will be following the same old procedure as his mentor George D did eight years ago. When asked if high-profile candidates would be targeted the president tips his hand when he says that is not "an overriding characteristic." He wants someone "who shares the values of Grizzly athletics and the university."

You don't need an inordinate amount of brain power to know what that means - another red herring
quasi-national search before hiring someone already near and dear to UM - and probably ol' Royce. As Yogi said, "It's deja vu all over again." With apologies to Jim O'Day, who broke the mold, it's going to be another incestuous hire when the university desperately needs a new start with somebody who rightly or wrongly hasn't been touched and/or influenced by this whole colossal mess.

Royce Engstrom continues to buttress his reputation as an unimaginative and insensitive administrator who needs to be sent packing back to his bunsen burner and test tubes before he does anymore damage.

...that is pretty much the 'MO' ..those who have been around UM, as student/staff can attest to that. Institutional bias is an art form #32 Campus Drive...same old, same old

I wonder if the "search" will be as wide ranging as the "search" was for a new President. This president just doesn't seem up to the heavy demands his position requires.

"He’s more interested in finding a person who “shares the values of Grizzly athletics and the university” and has the work ethic and personal characteristics to help the program be an even better model."

This cracks me up! A "better model" of what??

Former ASU AD Lisa Love is the politically correct choice & since this is a politically charged platform i would not be surprised by her selection

I've been saying this since Day 1: Engstrom will hire a Female Athletic Director.

This will be another way to help UM's image, so he believes. Supposedly big boosters had a meeting with Engstrom awhile back and told him he MUST hire a powerfull AD to fundraise and lead the athletic department if they are going to keep donating to the programs. I don't think Engstrom cares.

Brace yourselves...........

Best solution? Re-hire JOD with apologies and a long contract.

And Robin, get rid of the idiot in the head office. Then, simply hold those that break the law accountable and not persons that aren't the kids parent. Oh wait, their adults.

We have an AD on the payroll already thanks to the moron Engstrom not doing his job and reviews of employees. ODay should be returned to active duty as the University of Montana Athletic Director and serve his full year in employment. In January a group ( not just Engstrom ) should convene look at Jims performance for the year and then decide wether to renew his contract or not.

Oday was one of the best ADs this school has ever had. He has commited no offence at all, and there was no justification in his IMMEDIATE DISMISSAL.

The same goes for Pflugrad. That coach commited no crime, broke no school or state rules of any kind. He coached well enough to get UM to the semi playoffs last year. There was no serious reason for his IMMEDIATE DISMISSAL either.

We need to be searching for a new President for our University. Thats were the real search should be at.

I would love to see O'day back. Even, if it is to serve out the remainder of his current contract.

I will save my Engstrom comments, until more details, and facts are known to us.

I won't save my comments as there isn't anything to wait for....the damage that he has done and is doing to UM is apparent!!

Those facts and details will never be known by us

I totally agree.

...& if this doesn't happen... I should become the AD. Chris & the moderator staff can use me as their political puppet & we can decide what is best for the Griz athletics.

That thought crossed my mind and I mentioned it in a earlier thread; scares the hell out of me; she was a disaster at ASU. However, her hiring and defense of DE and the thugs he attracts wherever he goes is probably not a resume item they will be looking for - hopefully. A female that has never been an AD, who would come cheaply, and be in RE's back pocket is more likely.
