UM vs UNC What's your take

Growler, I do not for one second think UM has better overall talent than UNC.

You are kidding, I presume. Take away one kid and you've got Sac State.

If you take away Beitzel, we slide Elliott Lloyd to shooting guard (his natural position) and play Paul Garnica at the point (which you'll see a lot of tonight, anyway) and we still make the conference tournament. Now, what would happen if we took BQ away from the Griz?

Regardless of what happens tonight, with 4 Seniors UNC will reassume their place in the lower tier of the BSC. Thanks for playing. :thumb:

It is difficult to go an entire season and not lose at home. The Bears are due to lose one at home. Plus the Griz are peaking now, with Cherry again at full strength. I say the Griz win a close one.

Experience often is the difference maker in games like this.

The Griz have it; UNC does not. Montana 66, UNC 61.

Uh, we'd still have a first team all conference SOPHMORE pg, another 7 foot forward that is our best 3 pt shooter, a true freshman that was first team all city Los Angeles, and oh yeah, the best defense in the conference.

UM would NOT have the best defense in the conference without Qvale. Having a big shot blocker inside makes a team's defense exponentially better, just ask the Magic or Russell's Celtics.

I say UNC wins, 65-58, Beitzel scores 26, including 11-12 from the line.

This sucks but prob yes. If its a well officiated game (   ) will be close. If it comes down to stupid garbage fouls on the bigs and he's actually 15-17 from the line we are screwed.

Oh, come on, this is the Big Sky, the game won't be officiated well. The only question is in what way will it be officiated poorly. Will they let the game devolve into a street fight? (advantage Montana) Will they call everything? (advantage UNC) or will they just be wildly inconsistent? (advantage to who the hell knows)

The Mighty GRIZ with kick the snot out of the lil panda bears from Colorado 80-53 !!! Is UNC ever going to get a football team???

Peaking? Wow, you are intelligent.

My take.....Griz win by 5.

I never want to see a player hurt, but I like the Qvale, Selvig, Cherry, Steward, and Jamar line-up rather than the one with Stockton. Jamar is twice the player on offense, and he has a better defensive game. Yeah Stockton gained a ton of respect, but he hit a very large plateau regarding his play.

IMO Selvig is, once again, the x-factor. In his last game against Northern Colorado University  .......he went for 18 pts, 7 rebs, and 5 assists.........IF he has this game, it will free up Qvale. Qvale last game against NCU went like this: 22pts, 13 rebs, and 2 blocks. Win or lose, Selvig will play a major factor.

Double team the crap out of DB with Steward and Cherry, and make the rest of NCU's basketball team beat the griz?..... Or do you just assume DB will get his 21-25 and crank up the D on the other 4 on the court?

Thoughts?

Anyhow..... 2 hrs till tip-off.

Go Griz!!

Pressuring bietzel will be tricky if you get withing five feet he will just launch himself into you and draw a foul for three free throws.

This should be a heck of a game, the Griz in front of hostile crowds on the road have not fared well.

I went back and put the scores of all the in-conference road games for the Griz, it was a pretty interesting result (excludes last nights win):

Griz average ppg: 64
Opp average ppg: 64.8

The Griz went 4-4 over those games

Meanwhile UNC at home in conference shook out like this (excluding last night's win):

Bears average ppg: 70.125
Opp average ppg: 54.5

The Bears were 8-0 in those games

---------------

UNC has the clear edge based upon how each team does at home vs how they do on the road. If I wasn't a Griz fan and looked at this based on past performances... I'd say UNC wins and maybe by double digits. And maybe that's the smart call to make.

However, I like that the Griz hit a good stride in the 2nd half last night and add in that the last time these two faced of the Griz defense let Beitzel get his points but totally shut down the rest of the team. In their first matchup the Griz let a few of UNC's other good players have decent games and thats what made the difference. IF the Griz can continue to play the defense they've been excelling at, I see them winning in a lower-scoring game (under the total points for sure) and it'll be tight all the way to the finish.

Also like what GB1 says, if we get the ticky-tacky refs that decide the game by putting our bigs on the bench for a long periods of the game that'll go in big favor of UNC.
