UM Quarterbacks this Fall

If a team can get better and more experienced QB’s with transfers, I am all for doing that.

At the end of the day, I agree with that statement. And it applies across the board, not just QB. Whatever makes the team better. Maybe it's just because it's so glaringly obvious at QB, while we're fine developing LB's and Safeties and RB (actually, I guess those are about the only three positions we develop at ). Seems like Bobby has made a strategic decision to use the portal to its fullest potential...can't fault him as long as it works.

Seems like every coach in America is doing it. It’s just the world we live in now. Covid really started a chain reaction that is going to take many years to straighten out. Look at all the seventh year seniors we’ve seen the last couple of years and probably this year at various schools. Kind of hard to take a 19 year old and put him up against a 25-26 year old with 6-7 years of college conditioning, lifting, and experience. The balance is slowly starting to come back, but there is such a back log in the portal coupled with kids that want to play now, hard to blame a coach for planning for the right now instead of putting effort into a kid and hoping he sticks around.

Here’s my thing with this: There are a finite number of scholarships and roster spots across CFB. So, in a very, very simplistic explanation, the guys not getting recruited out of HS need to go somewhere.

Say there is a RB who was going to go to Michigan, but Michigan brought in a transfer and stopped recruiting him. So he goes to Utah. The kid who would’ve gone to Utah now goes to Boise. Where does the kid who would’ve gone to Boise go? I want that kid. Like I said, very simplistic, but you get the idea. If top FBS programs are filling out rosters via the portal, there had to be a trickle down to FCS at some point.
