UM MSU games Saturday

The Griz played very well and look so much better and more mature than they did early in the season. Played with lots of confidence.

The Cats were not as good as I expected, except for Frey. Had he not had an unbelievable shooting night, the Griz would have crushed the Cats.

The main take away from this game?
It's always the exact same posters who incessantly bitch about the refs regardless of the season or the sport. Life for them will always be UnFair

"It's Not Fair"

In this case, the people complaining about the one ref are also some the most knowledgeable posters on the forum. They also attended the game.

No one said anything about fairness. The comments relate to the lack of quality and mistakes of the bald ref, and how it negatively impacted the game.

its True that It's a bigger club of whiners when the team loses than after a win
But, you did a fine job of fueling the fire
It's visually obvious that it is always the same whiners in every sport in all seasons

Questions for ya, BA.

Did you enjoy watching that game? Was it esthetically pleasing? Was there any flow at any time to the game?

The officiating wasn’t unfair. It was equally awful for both sides.

As for the posters who call out the terrible officiating we’re constantly and consistently subjected to, we’re just hoping that eventually the conference might actually pay attention and so something to improve it. Sorry if that makes you cry.

Hopes in one hand and dreams in the other usually add up to nothing changes...
I absolutely loved the Game, I was three rows up from the Danny Sprinkle show.... Yes, I saw lots of flow in the Game from the tip-off. Timmy set the pace and Harald and the refs did what they could to disrupt it... The Griz are in a Podunk State and in a Podunk confrence.... With the financial support that allows us to buy the very best shitty refs available. That ain't gonna change, ever. Or, at least it's not going to mysteriously turn into a utopic conference because of bitching & hopes and dreams.
Refs are part of the obstacle in every game, it's as Fair right now as it's ever been or ever going to get, because it's exactly as its always been.

To be fair in most of the games I've seen this year the officials have been pretty decent. A few years ago it seemed like every game was called like last night with 20 fouls in the first half. You will always get homered as a mid major playing in a power conference venue, that's not going to change. It's an issue throughout the game, but is seems to be improving to some extent. As fast as the athletes are you won't see everything, it's more that a few zebras just won't let inconsequential contact go and let them play.

Good post.

Half of the fouls in the game should never have been called. Some wouldn't have been called in a high school game.

Saturday about noon I went to see fortune teller. He looked into his crystal ball and said:

"Harold Frey will dominate this game. I see him scoring 37 points. I see many many fouls: 19 against the Bobcats but 27 against the Griz. I see the Cats shooting 29 free throws to only 16 for the Griz."

I was depressed all afternoon. No way we win this one, I thought.

Idk... Maybe I should just join the whiners club and incessantly bitch about the refs too..
Then I'd also be able to sit smack dab in the middle of all the success of what decades of whining and moaning has accomplished for those of you who have invested so much time and energy in to this little 'collective'....
It really is mind boggling what changes you've all accomplished by merely bitching....

The game changes. Refs are slow to catch up. For the last couple years "floppers" were suckering refs into calls. That has improved. Frey is a very clever veteran. He dribbles with his left hand and is an expert at initiating contct with his "off" (right hand)-which is closer to the defender. He then reacts to the contct and it's called against the defender. He will also "hook" the defnder when he's driving to get round the corner. The refs called him for that. It takes solid refs not to be fooled by good actors.

Frey got away with a very obvious "flop" late in the 2nd half. It would have been his fifth foul. Personally, I liked the way this game turned out. I watch games in the SEC that are either over officiated, or under, with many looking like the old Butte High/Butte Central games. Tough bball. It does no good to complain of the conference UM is in or the unfair officials that somehow, for reasons known only to them, blow their whistles on the Griz, because they are the Griz. I would say UM gets fouls because of the intense and swarming defense they play.

Who's trying to change anything? Not me.

We are merely discussing a game that already occurred. It's part of the enjoyment of being a fan.

During a game, the coaches' talking to refs, players talking to refs, and, sometimes, even fans expressing displeasure at calls/refs or talking to them can halve some influence.

Could you please expound on the "legal definition" of "halve" for those of us who never played the game?

From your recent post in the Falls thread, see below, note that "games" should have an apostrophe and "flinch" is incorrect grammar should be "flinched" . Or is that how they write and spell in car repair shops?

"Yep, after Timmy started out and set the games tempo...
The wife looked over somewhere in mid-second half and said.... tonight's the 1st night I haven't flinch when Timmy's on a drive....or, puts up a 3"

You obviously never played the grammar game either.

So, you are one of those posters who doesn't know the game, and has no game, who posts mainly on typos? Thought you had more than that.

Oh, halve means cut in half. It means that fans who complain about or yell at bad refs, can cut in half the influence of the bad refs.

In photo, note Frey grabbing Pridgett's waist with one hand, and on Pridgett's arm with other hand/arm.
