UM MSU games Saturday

1 damn referee blowing most the whistles. Who is the bald white guy(calling him an official is wrong). He's terrible

Hey that's kind of a racist statement. As a white guy I got to say we don't claim him. Looks more like an alien gray to me - 4 foot nothing tall, bald, bad makeup and he doesn't have a clue what he's doing. I did hear that aliens were willing to work for less money and it showed.

Sayeed. You have 4 teammates....

I am ok with that, with the game on the line he puts it on his shoulders and takes it, senior. Hell the four guys were almost all freshman !

Fully agree, ofzoo. Game's on the line, I want the ball in Sayeed's hands 101 times out of 100. But there were a few possessions there where he forced 8-10 foot jumpers in the lane relatively early in the shot clock while he had 3 defenders collapsing on him. Kick it out there. If those guys don't have a good look or don't feel confident, you can always get it back for a better look yourself.

Guess when he comes through I'll overlook that point but your right.

Classic, students chanting USA when Frey goes to the line and misses both.

As Bob Huggins once said “the players are bigger, stronger, and faster. The court has remained the same size, and the officials call more fouls. Something has to change.” The Bad Boy Pistons would have all fouled out in the first half. Terrible flow. I wish the bald ref would have choked on a dick, er, I mean his whistle!

This conference should be ashamed.

Of course, in order for that they'd have to give a shit.

It's 1 official. His partners need to feed him his whistle.

Not really their job though, is it? It's the conference's job to ensure at least junior high level officiating.

Think anything will be done?

Here is the thing, it isn't just a BSC problem.

Not even remotely. Watched the Kansas/Texas Tech game today....watched a Tech guy get literally strangled/choked on a play and the ref called the foul on HIM. The Kansas guy was over the back, wrapped his arm around the Tech guy’s neck, pulled him backwards and down to the ground and somehow it was a foul on the Tech guy. Unreal...

Just home from the game. I'm ecstatic for this GRIZ team. Young teams aren't supposed to overcome terrible officiating like that with resounding results. With how well the GRIZ were shooting from 3, and defending, that game could have been a 30 point blow out. The 1 official can be thanked by Cat fans for the game even being this close. I have no idea who that is, and best not know. He either had an absolutely terrible game, or he is an absolutely terrible official. I feel, the other 2 officials were solid, with only a few questionable calls. I called that official, "Mr Frey" a few times. I think he heard me, when they were leaving the floor for halftime.

Onto the game, I posted early in this thread, Manuel and Pridgett looked terrific with their perimeter shooting in pregame, and hoped that would be a sign of things to come. Sure enough, the GRIZ torched the nets in the 1st half, despite Samuelson not playing much (he got screwed by officials). I haven't checked the box score yet, but I think the GRIZ shot 10/13 or 10/14 from 3 in the 1st half. They absolutely were feeling it. That 1st half shooting and execution, was a thing of beauty to watch. Collectively, the team was in a zone!!! It all started with Timmy Falls.

Falls absolutely didn't hesitate or think twice, in taking a quick opening shot of the game, and nailed it!!! That so set the tone and attitude for this GRIZ team, right away. To me, that said, "Take that, we are to take care of business. Come on, bring it!!!" Shortly thereafter, Pridgett takes an open 3........"SWISH"!!! Followed by a few more baskets by Timmy and yet another 3 by Sameulson.

Despite Frey's efforts, this GRIZ team just wouldn't give in. The freshmen (Owens, DCH, Vazquez) all contributed with great hustle, rebounds, smart plays, and scoring. That was the 1st half of ball this season, when all 3 were contributing at the same time. Owens finally had the results and kind of game I've been expecting of him all season, with his scoring rebounding, and solid defense. Despite him missing his 1st 2 free throws, he didn't let it get to him. I saw a trio of freshmen of begin to turn into sophomores. They all looked confident out there. Next step, them all contributing to wins consistently. I really am most happy for Kyle Owens. He finally had his in conference break out game. That has to be huge confidence boost for him.

As for the 2nd half, defense and the crowd were terrific. Offense wasn't much of a factor in the 2nd half. I think, the officiating took both teams out of the flow. I really am surprised the 1st half, each team played as well as they did. That is very uncommon, in a bad to questionable officiated game. Kudos to each team for them keeping their cool and not allowing the officiating to impact the teams as bad as they could have.

I hung out after the game, congratulated the coaches and players. Spoke with the transfers after the game. I am extremely excited to see those guys play in the future. They are all extremely personable as well. I'm confident, Steadman and Gaskin will own this conference next season.

Terrific night overall, for everyone. I hope the Cats and their fans have a safe trip home. A few of their players were pretty damn cool to me, after the game, as I was walking out. By the way, I didn't hear of or see any bad sportsmanship by anyone at the game, by either side. Kudos to each side of this rivalry. GO GRIZ!!!!

Sorry, forgot to add this. Timmy Falls has one hell of quick 1st step to the hole, off the dribble. I've never noticed before tonight. I honestly feel, he has gotten quicker off the dribble over this season. He's almost at a Harding level in this conference as for 1st step quickness. He's improving every damn game as well. We are seeing what Coach DeCuire sees in him. He is sure as hell making me believe more and more in him. GREAT JOB, Timmy Falls!!!

Did you notice the couple times at a timeout Travis met Timmy on the court for a little counseling? Definitely helped adjust Timmy's focus and kept him producing throughout the game...and he only ended up with 3 fouls.

This game reminds me of the game played with Northern Colorado where just looking at their "ace" drew a whistle. That was the year North Colorado went to the tourney representing the Big Sky....the national refs were not so kind.

No they didn't. That never happened...

Yagi not looking super into it :-/

He frequently left the bench during the game and wandered off with a towel over his head and shoulders at times. At one point a assistant/grad assistant told him to go back to the bench.

When he did get in at the end of the game, he hustled well and was able to help on Frey without issue. I'm thinking his PT is affected by attitude/chemistry issues. He seems to be in the doghouse for some reason.

Whatever it is, I hope he can figure it out. He really looks the part and we could use a third big to spell Mack and Jared and let Kyle out of the Post more.

I'm pretty sure it did, in 2011 and they went on to play San Diego State....I am not hardcore sports buff and I'm often wrong, but I don't think so this time. I can't remember the hot shot shooter but he was BSC player of the year and anyone who touched him in the BSC tourney was called for a foul.

well, I guess you are right, sorta, but my point was the unfairness of the refs and how they seemed to protect the player whose name I can't remember. Too bad, the same officials could not have looked at North Carolina for pretty much the same thing, only more so.

That guard was Devon Beitzel of the 2011 UNC team. NAU and the GRIZ couldn't breathe on him, or look at him, without a whistle. I was at those games. It was terrible. NAU got screwed more than the GRIZ did in that tournament. I was actually thinking of that exact tournament during the 1st half of this game.

Just listened to post game. Sprinkle is damn classy. I love his demeanor and attitude. I can see him building the Cats up. They will be contenders under him. I'm just not sure when.

The main take away from this game?
It's always the exact same posters who incessantly bitch about the refs regardless of the season or the sport. Life for them will always be UnFair

"It's Not Fair"

In this case, the people complaining about the one ref are also some the most knowledgeable posters on the forum. They also attended the game.

No one said anything about fairness. The comments relate to the lack of quality and mistakes of the bald ref, and how it negatively impacted the game.
