UM Football Only BSC Team not Playing an FBS Opponent in 2025

The game i don't get in the schedule is central washington. I get having and winning a home game but limiting yourself to 11 chances for "counter" wins in a 12-game schedule feels like missing an opportunity. I'll give you that CW and Mercyhurst are no different as far as quality, CW may in fact be better, but mercyhurst is fcs. You could be 11-1 with 10 FCS wins and 0 ranked wins with that schedule. Top 4 seed with that resume?
Yes. Absolutely.

And do you really believe no one else in the bsc will be ranked?

D2's are a win (almost always) and get factored into general SOS. A game like Ferris helps the Griz more than a win against a crappy FCS. A win over a crappy D2 doesn't help with SOS. Just with overall wins.

Maybe? Maybe idaho is, but it could become a "currently ranked" later. Doubt it in September. Sac if all the transfers hit, has put together a good staff, so a possible. Weber no idaho state no cal poly no Portland state no eastern a possibility. Cats yes but I'm calling that your loss for the sake of this argument. Idk if that gets top 4 seeding. We were 4th in 2022 with our only loss to Oregon state and at minimum 2 ranked wins if not 3, pretty sure ewu was ranked as well.

At any given time, at least five bsc teams will be ranked.

And how about the bubs? No ranking for them?

That loss doesn't help with ranking or playoff seeding, though. I agree with you that beating them looks good, but would I rather beat an FBS team and have the 3rd/4th seed, vs not playing an FBS team and having the 1st/2nd seed? It is actually a well balanced question in some ways for the long term, but I'll take the higher seed at this point.
I'd wager that beating an FBS team likely means you'll be in contention for a 1/2 seed - even the worst FBS team still has an overall talent (primarily depth) advantage over a really good FCS team. But I see your point, and I'd rather consistently beat an FBS team and end up with a 3/4 seed vs. a 1/2 without playing an FBS.

Sure NDSU was getting press during their run of NCs, but it was the FBS wins that brought any respect to their championships.

No, it was all those championships and a dynasty. I'll take a championship over a Udub victory every time. So would the players.

You really are as clueless as you appear
You are clueless! My kid worked in the athletic department for several years. Currently serves as a director of operations for a large conference. No school in the country would avoid playing the Griz. In 2021, the University of Utah attempted to schedule a game for September 6, 2025, for $600,000. UM said we'll pass and instead scheduled Central Washington. There have been several others, too.

And how much more money did Missoula and the University make playing a home game instead of traveling to Utah? And what the heck does your kid working in a conference have anything to do with every FBS team in the country!?

The number is $700,000 Utah.

He laughed his ass off when he read that FBS teams avoid the Griz. He was in a lot of the scheduling meetings dipshit. Not one school ever avoided playing Montana in any sport.

My son was also in the AD (said your son liked to stink up the breakroom reheating fish soup), and also now works as the director of operations at a large conference (larger than your son's), and he said there are a lot of G5 and some P5 schools that have said no to a money game with the Griz.

I guess we'll just never know whose son is correct, here, dang.

And you avoided the more important question. I guess insulting me with name calling was more important. You also still didn’t answer what he has to do with every school in the FBS either.

No, my response was to Peyton. There was never a school that avoided playing Montana.

Looks like they paid Cal Poly $550, 000 and it came out last summer. So you are telling me the payout went down $50k in four years?
