I spoke with newly-named University of Montana Athletic Director Kent Haslam Monday afternoon about the direction of the football program that now stands at 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the Big Sky Conference. Haslam said he stands behind head coach Mick Delaney 100%, and praised Delaney for his leadership and maturity.

Seems like vows of confidence, standing behind the coach 100%, etc. etc. by GM's, owners, AD's is followed by firings quite often :coffee:

Yes, much like when a coach says I've not been contacted about another coaching job, yet leaves for said job shortly thereafter.

Good for Haslam. Given his background, I think he will stand behind his statement and give the coach his full support.

Haslam spent nearly two hours with a group in Billings last week. He is very impressive; he will take the AD job to a higher level.

What else is Haslam supposed to say during the season? Right now, he is 100% behind MD, as to what happens after the season and Spring camp, things can change.

I don't think, in the history of sports, that an AD has, prior to a firing or resignation, said that he's 20%/50%/80% behind the coach. It's ALWAYS 100% ... until the next press release.

He is doing exactly as he should. However, there should be evaluations done at the end of the season and decisions made that give the Griz the best chance at success next season. This will be a pivotal decision that could have long lasting effects on the program. And I am not advocating for or against Coach Delaney.

Well of course he stands behind his coach. It's the freaking middle of October. Name one AD who has said otherwise about his coach this week.

He said "leadership and maturity". Notably absent was the term "coaching abilities". Not exactly an iron-clad endorsement.

OK, I am behind all of you nut jobs posting away. Way behind. Political speak by Kent. Best thing he can say. What good would it do if he called him a shitty coach? He did the right thing.

This does not mean Delaney is sticking around. Not by a long shot. For now yes.

ok, Take up a collection on here to buy out the rest of the coaches contract. But who in their right mind would step in mid season to take over this mess, volunteers????
