UI athletic director won't board Bronco plane

MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) - The Boise State vs. Idaho rivalry has taken to some not-so-friendly skies for some Vandals.

University of Idaho Athletic Director Rob Spear says he declined to board a Horizon Air flight Saturday after learning the airplane was painted in Boise State blue and orange colors.

The university and Horizon Air unveiled the plane, which sports the team logo on its tail, as an ode to the Broncos earlier this month.

KBCI-TV reports Spear, who was traveling to Boise for fundraising events, requested another flight and then drove about 90 miles north to fly from the Spokane, Wash., airport to Boise.

Spear says he'll board the Boise State plane after Horizon Air paints an airplane for the Vandals, who will try to beat Boise State on Saturday for the first time since 1998.

That same plane flew around Bronco stadium at the start of the game. Also, good job Spear! You did the right thing there.
