Ugly Win vs Good Loss

No loss is good and an ugly win does not exist. A W is a W and a L is an L.

Montana had a great win over UNI and as a fan base you should be proud. You don't need to put up 60 points for it to be considered a good win. NDSU has dominated the FCS over the past 5 years by slugging it out in games just like Montana did yesterday. If Montana plays like they did yesterday for the rest of this year, they will win a championship.

Whoa! High praise from a NDSU fan? Inconceivable.

You play the game to see who wins. Especially early in the year, you analyze your overall effort and work on areas that can be improved. This becomes more focused as the season goes on.

No W is ugly--some or more fortunate than others. A pop fly over first looks like a line drive up the middle in the score book and that's the way it should be.

The same lessons can be learned by a lucky or less than perfect win. Why do you need an L for it to be appropriate or meaningful?

If one checked I bet there is a correlation between the knowledgeable repeat posters who predicted a big UNI win on that thread and those who are bad mouthing the victory on this one.

What? I've always been complementary of Montana's team when they perform well. I don't have a deep hatred for Montana football like your fans do for NDSU. Why would I ? I wasn't old enough to have drivers license the last time they won a championship. They have been irrelevant to NDSU for the most part. Just a non conference team. Played them in one playoff game. Not some big rival or team who NDSU is constantly battling against for recruits.

As I said. Nice passive aggressive attempt at a compliment though.

How am I being passive aggressive? I said Montana played one hell of a game and you should be proud. I said they could very well win a championship with that defense.

I just said I have nothing against Montana. They have never been a rival of NDSU. We have met in one playoff game. UNI and SDSU are the teams I am concerned about each year. They are the teams NDSU recruits against and plays against to determine conference championships. Any other their team is irrelevant until a playoff matchup.

If the loss is to a decent fbs team I'd take it over a ugly win against a lower fcs team or d2 team. Does that count? Lol

It wasn't an ugly win, but it wasn't pretty either! They did what they needed to do! If the offense ever came out with any consistency for a game...or a half...or a series...

After all that gibberish in the Missoulian about Montana being not quite Montana again yet, I'd say that win sure looked like a Hauck victory where the opponent was left sulking about winning the stat sheet not the scoreboard. The offense checked out early, but it was doubtful at the end of the half that UNI had enough time left to triple its scoring output.
+1 This was a "Hauck win" if there is such a thing.

Absolutely!

Of the three aspects of football ,we held our own on offense (won the first half) beat them on defense and dominated on special teams.

Hauck was always great on special teams and after week one, I was wondering who the f was our st coach.
Great to see that was turned around 180 degrees.

We didn't hire Stitt to be an offensive genius, he was hired to put up W's. And that is what he did.

Not all MT fans hate NDSU...we're just tired of you winning every year lol
