For point of reference in terms of pure +/- going into the UW game Parker was -1 and Bannan was -31. Seems pretty consistent with the season.

So if I were a coach and I relied on those stats to help make lineup decisions, I wouldn't play Bannan much?

The numbers are what they are. Going Into this game in terms of analytics against D-1 teams Parker had been the 2nd best player behind Owens this season. Player Efficiency Rating (PER), Logarithm Box Score Plus/minus (BPM) and pure +\- with regular rotation players Parker is the second best player. You can argue what you want but it is what it is. I suspect the UW +\- will show a similar result.

Overall, this is a great win for the Griz and the conference. I really felt that YCC game on Saturday was scheduled for the sole reason of getting the guys a win and some confidence. I knew we were gonna have a chance to win this game after seeing UC Riverside knock them off earlier this year. That 7-4 guy for UW killed us, and they shouldn’t have taken him out of the game. That was a huge mistake on their part. This was a very good all around team performance and everybody contributed tonight. When they tied the game and even took the lead at one point, this team never wavered and we hit some huge shots when we needed to. Good night to be a Griz!

This game coverage video from the Pac 12 site is basically coverage of the Huskies. But there's some great coverage of Brandon Whitney's and Josh Vazquez' game clinching shots. Complimentary coverage of the Griz.

They had to take their big guy out because there isn't enough oxygen at that altitude.

UW coach Mike Hopkins might not make it past Christmas break.

I think with his contract and the deficit that the UW athletic department has due to Covid, I think he will.

The good thing about +\- is it takes into account how your team is playing on defense when you are on the floor. Defense isn’t about steals and blocks, it’s about not letting people score on you. Parker looks really good playing our aggressive team defense.

Thanks for a little more of an explanation of what +/- is. Have never really understood it.

If it is supposed to measure a player's impact on defense, though, does it somehow measure the performance of the opponent that player is guarding? Or does it measure the performance of the entire opposing team when that player is on the court? And does it give extra points to players who hold opponents under season averages? Say a defender who holds an opponent to 10 points in a game who normally scores 20?

In the meantime, will have to watch Parker a bit more when he's on defense. Haven't paid particular attention to that aspect of his game. Have noticed he's made some good decisions in terms of passes and shots, but also some bad ones. But the season is young, and he's getting used to his new teammates.

First it was a great team win. Hard to beat quality opponents (insert UW joke here) on the road. I would have said the Griz have a chance to win, but I wouldn't have guessed it was going to happen. That was an ugly win against an ugly team, but again you'll take any win you got.

Continues to be a weird year and we are 6 games in and no rotation is ever the same. Against YCC everyone played. Georgia, Egun got serious minutes. Last night 7 player rotation with Henderson as the 8th player with two minutes of PT. No Egun, Anderson, Brown minutes last night. Beasley still on the IR and Clarke MIA. Your guess is good as mine as to what the rotation is going to be against Dickinson State. Might include some random dude Travis pulls off the streets when he gets back to Missoula.

I'm impressed with Parker. He can score obviously, but what really struck me last night, was how well he managed the zone. This team has been brutal against the zone in the past, but he sees seams well and was able to stretch the zone horizontally with his ability to get into pockets and pass out. Had Owens had a better night shooting, Griz would have won by 15 or 20. He had clean look after clean look and they just didn't fall. Much of that was due to Parker.

I think we saw the worth of Bannan last night offensively. He's clearly better hi-post in, has good passing skills for a big. Outside of Parker, he might have been the most important guy on the floor last night against that packed Washington Zone. He can take post guys off the dribble, and when in the paint with any bit of leverage he can get reasonably good looks at the hoop. He's hard to hide right now on the defensive end, because he's clearly not a great post defender at this point and constantly is on the wrong side for a lot of rotations. He's at times vastly better playing as a wing defender rather than getting caught in the paint. He's gonna need Steadman/Owens to become a larger presences defensively around the rim to help Bannan out.

Overall, for running out 7 guys and a volatile personnel situation, a gutty and gritty performance last night. Good to see them get to tally a W against a Pac12 school again.

The Husky coach's post-game interview is in this link somewhere. He talks almost exclusively about his tea and the lack of energy. Complemented UM once and said a few little things about the good D.

I wonder if Clark is even eligible until the start of next semester. He stayed in Australia until recently to recover from an injury, and perhaps he is still mending. But, unless he took classes on-line in the Fall, is he even presently registered as a student?

I frankly don't understand the talk regarding Coach Mike Hopkins. City kind of started talking about it in this thread. Coach Hopkins was the coach of year in the Pac 12 in 2018 and 2019. Did he all of a sudden forget how to coach and is going to be replaced in 2020 or at then end of this year. I don't think so. It amazes me how many people were down on this Grizzly team after our first 4 games. The sky was falling but it didn't. Travis and his staff made the necessary adjustments and we are definitely improvingI We will still have peaks and valleys because we are young and inexperienced but the future is extremely bright. IMO Washington will also be stronger at the end of year than they are now as Coach Hopkins is struggling to fit the pieces together in the same manner as Travis. The game wasn't a runaway at the end and if they had made more free throws the result could have been different. They didn't! It wasn't! Good for us!

Kudo's to Travis and his staff for their efficient plan to attack the zone. We played hard and fast, both on offense and defense. Last night we were better than Washington was. I am fascinated by the defense Whitney plays as a true freshman. He brings back memories of Will Cherry defensively.

Bannan had 12 rebounds. Owens had 3 rebounds, including 4 on O. Owens and Bannan led team in assists, with 3 each.

FT% was 81.5 to 42%. Shooting was 37% to 42%. Griz made 2 more 3's, and those were the 2 later in the game that killed UW.

DCH played 10 minutes and didn't score. 2 rebounds. 4 fouls.

I see that Parker was +18. Maybe someone said that above. Vasquez was next with 6.

It measures both D and O collectively so if you are on the floor with the second unit that doesn't score as well it will have a negative impact on your =/- versus minutes with a better scoring group. Vice versa if you are with a D oriented group in a situation trying to hold a lead.

The Griz constantly switch on D so saying a guy torched, just to use a name, Vasquez by soring 25 is not very accurate. Vasquez may start a possession guarding player X, with switches defensively Whitney, Parker and even KO might end up guarding him when he scores. So player X may score 8 of his 25 with Vasquez on him and the rest with 3 or 4 different defenders in that role yet people think Vasquez had a crappy game on D. It's a team concept in their D The NBA tracks every move their players make so you can tell who scored on who and even how close the defender was to Lilliard when he made a 35 footer, NCCA does not, though individual teams might, a hard core stat guy might have more info on that.

The point is to get an edge with te double teams and switching. When it works it forces turnovers and shots your opponent doesn't want to take, when it breaks down you give up dunks and wide open 3's.

I can tell you that Hopkins is very much on the hot seat. Many are associating his success with the talent left by Romar. They see him as out of touch with west coast basketball with his east coast background and believe he is struggling to keep up.
