I was one of those who criticized Falls before last night's game. I don't think my criticism at that time was was inaccurate, or too harsh. Basically, I praised him for playing aggressively on defense, but said he sometimes played out of control on offense and put up too many off-balance shots. The numbers seem to bear that out. Before last night, he was 6 of 21 on his shots (about 30 percent) and 1 of 10 from the 3-point line (10 percent). Not too great.
Of course, that shouldn't be too unexpected. There's a world of difference between playing against high school athletes and much bigger and faster college b-ballers. Takes time to adjust.
But boy, did Falls show he's a quick learner. He played within himself. Showed great vision of the court. Knew when to pass and when to shoot. When he shot, he had good body balance. Plus, stayed very aggressive on D, without getting a lot of dumb fouls.
As a true freshman, we can expect some up and down games from Falls. Still, last night I was very impressed with him, and looking forward to a great Griz career.
