TYRONE WON!

I am really pleased for him. Most deserving. A great player and an excellent man!

Tyrone, I hope you can continue to pursue your dreams and succeed at the next level!

How does he win this award, but not BSC defensive POY? Little bias against the Griz???! Mmm....?

Pretty sure they gave it to Cowser as a lifetime achievement award. On that basis, he is certainly worthy. As a yearly award, he was clearly outplayed by Ty this year, though.

Terrific achievement Tyrone! Major kudos to you and your stellar work in receiving this most deserved award! :thumb: :D

He joins another former defensive end, Kroy Biermann, as the only Grizzlies to win the award. Now Holmes wants to keep adding to his career accomplishments at the next level. He will get a great chance to show NFL scouts what he can do when he plays in the East-West Shrine Bowl in Tampa Florida on Jan. 23.

"Especially for a small school guy, to be able to compete against power five conference dudes. Just really use that as a measuring stick to see where I'm at. I mean, I think I stack up pretty well. I'm hoping to surprise some people down there," Holmes said.

The Eagle Point, Oregon native originally wanted to play at the Pac-12 level but instead went to Montana and built himself into a pro-level talent.

"I feel like very guy in the FCS probably feels like they got slighted a little bit," Holmes said. "But I feel like everything works out the way it's supposed to. God had me in the right spot. It definitely worked out how it was supposed to, but yeah for sure, I have a pretty big chip on my shoulder."

Big Sky quarterbacks learned to fear him and now maybe NFL quarterbacks will see him closing fast.

Well, that and the BSC has had a history of giving MVP awards to players from the championship team, as long as they were at least in the discussion beforehand. Take Kayleigh Valley being slighted this week for POW. Much better stat line than MSU's Hommes (Valley: averaged 26pts on 62.5% and 10 rebounds, Hommes: averaged 20.5pts on 55% and 7 rebounds) but UM dropped a game to Sac State while MSU pulled off the road sweep.

If UM had even tied for co-championship, I think the BSC would've given Tyrone Defensive MVP. There really was no arguing that Holmes was better than Cowser this year.

Good for him!

Is this what used to be called the Buck Buchanan Award?
Yes.
Why was the name dropped? just curious

Something to do with STATS buying out what I believe was the Sports Network rights. I'm not sure of all the details but they changed the Payton and Buchanan to new names because of it
