congratualtions to a montana kid who made it to the national stage and turned in quite a performance. the other night he made two of sports center's top ten plays, including number one, and last night he got a key hit that led the beavers past north carolina for the ncaa baseball championship. as if to put a symbolic flourish on the entire championship run, he caught the final flyball out that clinched it for the beavers.

carolina made a ton of blunders in this game which made it even sadder to see the full burden for the loss fall on one kid. ironically, the last time i've seen anything like it was two years ago when oregon state's football team had chance after chance to upset lsu in baton rouge, but their kicker missed a couple of extra points. that kid went on to redeem himself, and i hope the kid from north carolina will use that as a model of redemption.

City - I agree on Tyler. He is a fierce competitor, and it is well deserved. I remember him playing Legion ball.

I feel bad for the 2nd baseman for NC too. And I also think that the 1st baseman deserves part of the blame. He committed to his stretch too early, and couldn't get to his right to get the ball. Hard to see a game determined on a play like that.

Proud to say I umpired him before. :thumb:

This is the 1st year in eight I haven't umpired in Billings. Hung it up after 18 years. :crybaby:

I was glued to the tube when OSU played, glad he (they) won it.

I also agree w/ grizpack about the 2nd baseman. Being a Dodger fan, it remined me of Steve Sax.

The 1st baseman in question, for North Carolina, normally is a catcher & probably did not make the stretch for the ball. Anyhow, congrats to Tyler & the Oregon State University Beavers.

Can't blame this on one play (they had 4 errors), but the 2nd baseman was a sub, came in the game in the 5th-6th inning.
