Tyler Ganoung leaves team

I hope it didn't have anything to do with aliens or selling counterfeit fishing lures to senior citizens. Also, if the staff is involved in a multi-national Ponzi scheme, there could be major issues. Was there a poisoning incident that led to this? What are they hiding?

All possible, I’m more worried the staff is caught up in a scheme to pirate unreturned Blockbuster videos to sell on the Serbian black market though.

The Serbian connection makes perfect sense with all the bohunks in Butte. Beware the Black Hand.

Parenthetically, that might look cool on the side of a football helmet.

Agreed. It just kills me that people rave about the transfers IN, but say stuff like that when someone decides to hang up the cleats.

I have zero issues with him leaving. No matter the reason. If his heart's not in it anymore, why would you abuse your body?

Do said transfers usually quit mid season for the team they currently play for prior to transferring or do they typically play out the year then transfer?

sometimes.

Can the university bill keintz and ganoung now? If not, why not? NIL rules now allow student athletes to make money outside of the institution, therefore, we should hold them accountable to their bill. Sorry but you can’t have this both ways. Either you stay on the team, or pay back the scholarship. Players are no longer “students first”. That trope died with the NIL legislation no?

who should "pay back" all the money for scholarships at other institutions that went to guys who quit those teams and transferred to the griz? you know, the starters and such you cheer on every game?

If they didn’t finish the semester at the institution in question, then either the player or the school to which he or she is transferring should pay. Either that, or finish the semester out playing for the team

since they'd be academically ineligible to play, i'm assuming they finished the semester wherever they were.

When Butte gets a NFL expansion team that should absolutely be their helmet design.

It wasn't nearly as cool when tattooed onto the left side of your blind dates face.

 Ahh, you’ve been spending time in North Idaho again.

I just read this thread and I can tell you from the outside looking in, Tyler's explanation on Twitter was Poppycock, plain and simple. Something smells very fishy in Zootown and everybody is in on it. Big news breaking shortly.

Tyler better get back on Twitter and give more details of what's going on. He owes that to egriz.

You finally made it to first base?!? Congratulations.

Isn’t he still a sophomore though? Can he do 2 years worth of a degree program in one summer? Just wait he transfers to MSU lol.

He's a soph in eligibility but has been at UM for 4 years. With the lost Covid year, we're going to see more of this type of thing at every program in the nation. Players will graduate and decide it's time to move on to the next phase in their life; maybe they already have a career opportunity; maybe they have a girlfriend living somewhere else, and want to be with them; maybe they're just tired of their body aching or of assuming the risk of CTEs.

I'm astounded by the sense of entitlement by some on this board. These are STUDENT-athletes. Getting their degree and becoming model citizens is the entire point of the program.

But even if you believe a player shouldn't leave mid-season "for the good of the team", do you really want someone who doesn't want to be there for whatever reason? Makes no sense to me.

Bingo....

Were ganoung and keintz on scholarship? If so do we get to be a little pissed that they used those scholarships and subsequently hung up their cleats, essentially taking up two spots on a team? If not why? Where do scholarships at a state subsidized university come from? Do fans have a vested interest?

No

Did NIL rules really change the rules of an athletic scholarship? I know the answer, so don't try to explain.

It’s a good question, and one that could probably be argued in court

Nothing stopping you from hiring a lawyer. Pretty sure you can find one to take your money.

Was thinking the same thing EG. It was going along fine when I read this morning. Pop on this afternoon and it went from 3 pages to 8 of some of the most idiotic things I have read. And that's saying something.

Some "fans" are completely out of their minds.

FWIW I hope this kid does well with whatever he decides to do away from football.

Over/Under 17 pages…
I'd go for over with the team that has assembled itself.

I'm always amazed at people who think that scholarship div I football players are getting some financial windfall. Frankly what they get is a pittance for the hours and effort they put into it. It's a labor or love or an ego thing. Financially, they would be better off washing dishes in a Chinese restaurant for minimum wage when all is said and done. I am surprised that there is not more attention in these ranks. They don't owe anyone anything. It's funny that the criticism always comes from some pot bellied wannabe that is reliving his junior high fantasies.
