true freshmen Banks and Moses

I thought Lee did a nice job, agree on a few runs he went inside (ran into the back of his own lineman a couple of times). If he would have cut out, looked like a nice lane. He's quick to the hole and has very good lateral movement. Did a nice job picking up blitzes.

Agreed, and I thought Calhoun also missed an opportunity or two with cuts and/or getting caught or tripped up when it looked like he might break a longer one. Same with Lee. With 5 or 10 more yards added to 5 of the runs, the run game would have looked better. Only 2 minus 1 yard losses for the entire game tells that the o-line blocking was pretty solid. Some people are complaining about the run blocking but I would give it at least a B. I watched more closely in the first half than the second half. The heat/sun/beer took over in the 2d half.

Agreed. I was fine with the run blocking for the most part. At some point the RB has to take responsibility for making the 2nd level guys miss...and not running up the back of your O-lineman when there's a gaping hole just to your right. :? :?

Speaking of Redshirts, just WOW. I haven't seen a group of RS's that looked physically so ready to play, than this group. And what's funny is, I think I said that last year lol. BUT, visiting with some of them towards the end of the game Saturday in the south corner, just wow. Payton Stoner is an absolutely HUGE human being. Michael Matthews and Carder Key look DI ready NOW. Malik Flowers also looks like he is physically ready to play. Nate Dick has really bulked up. Mitch Roberts is much bigger than I thought he was. There are some really physically gifted and BIG STRONG kids sitting in the stands this season. WOW.

I agree, I've said it a few times, Stitt is building a program, a big part of it is red shirting freshman. I understand if you need them, but much better for the program long term to red shirt them.

let's just hope he's around to see them develop. :? :?

couple things....(1). i believe calhoun came back into the game and finished well, i could be mistaken........(2). the running back depth should hold up as i understand it, in fall camp lee and mccombs were pushing calhoun ....favors is a guy that has some size and quicks, he is a senior and it should be his year....his tape out of arizona was impressive....kind of a mystery, maybe he will catch fire.

1) Nope. He didn't. Hurt with about 6:30 left in the 4th and never returned. That doesn't mean he's injured (in fact he's listed 1st on the depth chart for UW), but he didn't return after that nasty collision.
2) People keep waiting for Favors to "catch fire"....Yes, his HS tape was impressive...I remember this is the guy we were thrilled to have beaten NDSU for....it just hasn't clicked for him, and I'm not sure why people expect it to suddenly now. This is his 5th year in the program....should have clicked long ago.

I agree, I'm not pushing for Stitt to stay or go, but it says alot about him that he's willing to red shirt them and build for the future, even when he might not be around for the future.

Banks may end up having to play, if the safety depth doesn't get back up to full speed. Think they hope to redshirt him. Moses isn't going to play this year for various reasons. Can't imagine he is ready to play yet, and there is pretty good depth at running back. McCombs is coming back from an injury, and had been in the mix early in pre-season. Green is expected to be back fairly soon. Didn't like seeing the post that Calhoun may have gotten hit again. I have liked what I saw with Lee all along.

Pretty sure Green is out for the season with a broken leg

That was the initial word, but Stitt has been on record stating his injury (which is not exactly known) is healing faster than expected and Green should be back at some point. I believe Amie Just's lastest Missoulian article as the exact quote in it.

He didn't break his leg. Just an ankle injury.

PR is correct. Ankle sprain - predicted to return in October per Stitt

Moses is a talented runner but he is very small right now. In my opinion he needs to put on at least 20 pounds in order to adequately provide pass protection. I just don't see him back there unless there is an emergency this season.
I'd disagree. Maybe 20 lbs by his junior year, but if he put that on by next season he would be a completely different runner. And not in a good way. He's made to be a slashing type of runner, and 20 lbs would hurt his ability to do what he does best.

There were VERY positive reports about his pass protection in fall camp. He knows how to leverage his body and use his legs.

What got me thinking about Moses was watching Za'Quan Summers from Portland State run through the Oregon State defense last weekend (18 carries, 106 yards). Summers is 5' 9", 175 lbs (2 inches taller and 9 lbs heavier) than Moses. So similar builds, albeit Summers is a senior. On several plays it was like Summers was into the 2nd level and off to the races before the OSU D even reacted. If they're running Summers against us, I'd like to give them a taste of their own medicine...

..they way l feel about Moses ....yeah he's small but if he's elusive like JLM and he's able to find some
daylight...bring it on! l felt a couple a times our RB could had a bigger runs if they would have hit
some open spaces...some backs just have that ability to do that...chase Reynolds is one example.

Moses would be fine running the ball....but I am not so sure he us ready to pick up blitzing linebackers to save Phillips career....needs another year for that

Moses doesn't shy from contact, saw him in the scrimmages finish his runs going forward, one time he could have gone out of bounds or hit the defender, and he put his head down and got a couple more yards by hitting the defender. He did really well picking up blitzes, but agree that a red shirt year would be best for him. After that I say watch out, he's extremely quick, especially laterally, and has a great jump cut.

I think jump cut would help in this offense....last weekend the backs seemed more set on trying to run over people than make them miss. I am not a fan of dancing around but one quick cut can work wonders.

Especially with zone blocking.
