Trent McKinney is our guy

Unfortunately TM is not the guy for this offense. He is a heckuva athlete but perhaps needs to try another position.

McKinney directed an offense that, except for coaching errors at the end of the game, beat Eastern Washington (the #2 seed) handily. No other quarterback on the roster could have even come close. He had a bad game against UND, but did nothing that justified benching him. The kid was a freshman. If you couldn't see his potential you were not paying attention.

Strong point.

What scares me is his comment that he has a hard time reading the field and that is why he runs. Perhaps he didn't actually think JJ wouldn't be here so he wasn't mentally preparing for all these game reps, but unless he really becomes a student of the game I don't see it happening. If he had an accurate arm and half the game smarts of JJ, he'd be All Conference and we'd be playing today.

You want to blame him for the losses? He put us in a position to win every game, the coaching and play calling is what sh*t the bead.

Forget SUU? 95 yards in the second half. Bad decisions, couldn't complete a pass- as the season went on, he got worse, not better.

McKinney was the best QB on this year's roster, and it wasn't even close.
Your a fu*king tool. He is NOT a QB everyone on the planet can see that. Stevie Wonder can see that.

+1 Trent couldn't make ANY 2nd or 3rd reads in the passing progressions. If he is the best "Q" on our roster we are "screwed". I won't call him a clown but at times he reminded me of Blinky. I hope all of our qb's are working their ass off to be bigger, stronger and wiser. Trent's arm is VERY suspect also..Not saying you need to have a cannon, but the only guy I remember is 15.. and no one is 15. I'm pulling for "GUS" but all I want is our very best...bottom line.

McKinney: Good athlete. Can't hit the broad side of a barn over 10 yards.

SSH: Not a great athlete. Can barely hit the broad side of a barn.

Adam B: ????

Gus: ????

Right now our qb situation is a complete unknown and I'm not sure we a good one on the roster yet.

McKinney had more talent than many of the other skill players on offense and defense.

So is this like pee wee football were you put the most skilled guy at QB even if he is not a good QB?

you know we have qb trouble when there is this much compitetion among them for a starting spot,,,what is ideal is a clear front runner that is head and shoulders above the rest....and then develop the rest for their jr or senior seasons,,,,we have serious challenge with the qb, maybe the gustafsun kid can be the "has it" factor that starts the griz back to their rightful championship place.....if someone cannot seperate (in a big way) themselves, we are in trouble..imo

Just got done watching Trents YouTube videos again, the guy can play some ball, I don't care what drop down they bring in, TMAC is our guy. I hope doesn't even entertain the idea of transferring, I'm confident he will lead the Griz to the playoffs in 2013. Made me sick when they pulled him and put in SSH.

Not trying to pick a fight, but I couldn't disagree more. Competition makes everyone better. These boys better come in ready to fight for a spot and ready to compete. To do that they will have to put in WORK all off season long. Those that don't, won't play. Simple as that.

Of the games lost while McKinney was quarterback the only one you can blame directly on him was the NAU game. In that one he made some poor decisions. However in all of the rest those losses the offense scored enough to win and it was other units that failed. Particularly the defense in the Appy game, the defense and special teams in the EWU game, defense, (secondary), again in the ND game and special teams in the SUU game, (still pissed about that!).

On the other hand, SSH simply could not get it done against MSU in the red zone. Whether it was play calling or a bad game by SSH, to me he clearly showed that he was not ready to play at this level.

I'm not suggesting that Trent is the answer, but I think in the final analysis he was the better all around QB this year. Noone how well Adam, Shaw or Gustafson will play in a game situation because none of them have been tested.

Coach needs to take SSH out of the mix now and let the others compete. Hopefully JJ will return and make the question moot. SSH is a Frontier Conference talent at the QB position IMHO. Good kid who can contribute at other positions.
