This was the best you could do? Wow, just wow... ;)

And they ran a 3-4 of sorts with a 3rd safety playing as a "Hawk" as their stat book listed it.

That puts Semore at DC who ran a 3-4 at CSM and now Niekamp who did something similar.

I'm gonna dig a bit deeper. Be back later.

I wouldn't be surprised if our base defense changes from a 4-3 to a 3-4.

I've been expecting it with all the buzz. We got the depth and speed at LB. the D line is gonna be the issue. I think the two new recruits will help but getting a big guy(300+) would be extremely helpful for this transition.

If he gets the transfer from Louisville being discussed, with the big bodies already coming in, you could be right. I'd bet you'll see both, depending on the offense/situation faced. Stitt mentioned last year that they were facing teams running both early on, so why not if it keeps things going well. Have we got enough @ safety to consistently run three?

We have the perfect "hawk" in Yamen Sanders. He can be the Deone Buchanon (AZ Cardinals) of the Big Sky!

A real quick look at some of his team's and players performances. Here's 2015's numbers.
7th in con D scoring w/ 36.5 pts
8th in con D yards w/ 422.8 yards
7th in run D yards w/ 208.0
6th in pass D yards w/ 214.8
9th in pass D eff w/ 150.0
9th in int w/ 5
4th in sacks w/ 26
7th in opp 1st D w/ 21 per game
3rd in opp 3rd D con w/ 34.6%
11th(last) in TO margin -16
3rd in RZ D w/ 77.4%

Some individual leaders.
Sr LB led con in tackles w/ 133(12.1/game), another Sr LB was 7th with 103; 3rd on team finished w/ 55, quite a step down from the top two.
Fr DL 7th in sacks w/ 5.0.
The same Fr DL 5th w/ 14.5 TFL. The same Sr LB leading the con in tackles finished 6th w/ 13.5 TFL. The other Sr LB finished 9th w/ 11.5.

The comparison with 2014 is interesting. Niekamp coached only the LB's in '14 and shared the D coordinator in '15. The numbers in '14 were much better as a team.

Pts per game 26.2/3rd in con
Yrds per game 373.2/2nd in con
Rush 183.3/4th in con
Pass 189.9/2nd in con
Sacks 36/2nd in con
3rd con 32.6%/1st in con
RZ D 83.3%/6th in con

Part of this is the old successful DC leaving for greener pastures (DB coach at Memphis) and also possibly the co coordinator set up. What ever it was though, there was a steep decline.

Here's a year by year break down of his coaching duties.

15 ULM Co-DC, LB, ST
14 ULM LB, ST
13 ULM LB, ST
12 ULM TE, ST
11 WSU Director of Football Development
10 WSU LB's
09 WSU LB's
08 WSU LB's
07 EWU LB's
06 EWU LB's
05 EWU LB's
04 EWU LB's
03 Army TE's
02 Army TE's
01 Army TE's
00 Army TE's
99 Ill St LB's
98 Ill St DT's

Here's a breakdown of his all conference performers at ULM.
2015. 1st team LB. 2nd team DL. HM LB and DB.
2014. 1st team K. 2nd team LB and P. Two HM LB's.
2013. 1st team P. 2nd team LB.
2012. 2nd team return specialist.

Time will tell on his hire but I'm guessing the reason they picked him was his experience with the 3-4 D.

That sounds kind of like the 3-3-5 Nova ran when we met them in the chipper.
