Anthony Knight and Avery Poates, both of whom were dismissed from the Nevada football team this spring, were arrested Friday in Reno and charged with attempted robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.

Both charges are felonies. Knight, who a week ago was arrested for reckless driving, disregarding personal property and no proof of insurance, was also charged with misdemeanor possession of less than 1 ounce of marijuana.

Bail was set at $40,500 for Knight, $40,000 for Poates. ...

OH wait a minute, I see that Coach Ash already signed this fine upstanding young man of high morals and characteristics.

Riverside CC running back Anthony Knight is for sure coming. They filed his paper work yesterday. The MSU signing day event press release said MSU will bring in three transfers, so Knight will join Nevada transfer DB Bryson Keeton and Tyler JC DT WaWa Leota.

PapaG and a few other cat fans like to spout off about "our win at all cost mentality" and "it's just the culture at UM". How's the crow taste???

This dude almost transferred to MSU last year, but it his legal problems hadn't been resolved, so I think the Cats backed off. He got all his stuff worked out, so Ash is taking a shot on him. I have no issue with it, but it's definitely worth pointing out the hypocritical nature of several MSU poster here and on BN. IF this kid had transferred to UM, there would be multiple posts on here bashing the Griz for it, and a thread on the College Sports section of BN would be devoted to it as well. That's a 100 percent fact.

I'm very clear on this. I don't want him. Never have. I'd rather lose every game than have this kid become a Bobcat. Armed robbery is a serious offense. It's not like a little weed or a DUI, oh wait, he did those too. Well, maybe he's a fabulous running back.... Nevermind he has a BAD fumble problem.

This is stupid. Apparently we forgot 2006 already.

Good for you LongTime. I am with you. There a plenty of good players out there without issues who would contribute and potentially star for either UM or MSU. I don't get it.

Ash's stellar track record of keeping players that play on his teams squeaky clean throughout hie entire career... speaks for itself. I don't think you could find a college coach out there that has the proven history of so few players getting in trouble with the law. He obviously sees something in this kid that tells him he deserves a chance to be a Bobcat. All that being said... if this kid has even one tiny brush with the law... he's gone immediately.

I just hope that "one tiny brush with the law" doesn't get someone killed. I recommend those who live in and around Bozeman start locking their doors at night and keeping a watchful eye out for hoolaganism over the next few years.

I understand your respect for Ash, but he too will eventually get burned. It may not be by this guy. It may be by someone you would have never thought would do it, but it will happen. I appreciate the fact that he has low tolerance for problems and will dismiss players immediately, but is really the guy you want to take a chance with? One time and he is gone is great, but if this guy burns you, then all that good will Ash has built up is gone by taking a chance on a guy who by all estimation has used up all of his chances.

It should be pointed out that all charges were dropped against this young man. Like you guys said about JJ, he is innocent until proven guilty and that is what happened and things are now fine. It is the same thing with Knight. Charges were dropped as there was a lack of evidence. He is innocent. I am sure he was thouroughly interviewed by the MSU coaching staff and they must feel comfortable that he will be fine. Ash's track record is good with the young men he has taken chances on. I hope it works out for the young man the same as it has for JJ.

No program in the Country is immune to having a player screw up. There is always that chance. Both schools will have incidents in the future. We can only hope they are not too serious. These are young kids and we all know sometimes they make bad decisions. We all have when we were younger.

So, then inquiring minds want to know?

Why did Nevada KICK HIM OFF THE TEAM
Before This incident even happened?

Anthony Knight, a former University of Nevada running back who reportedly was set to transfer to Montana State, was arrested Friday in Reno on suspicion of attempted robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.

Knight and Avery Poates, who were dismissed from the Wolf Pack earlier this spring for violating team rules, were booked Friday into the Washoe County jail on the felony charges.

.Police Sgt. Mike Browett told the Reno Gazette-Journal that the two 20-year-old suspects arranged to meet with other people Friday to sell sports memorabilia, but produced firearms and demanded money during the meeting.

He said the victims got away unharmed, and officers arrested Poates and Knight during a traffic stop in downtown Reno.

Bail was set at $40,500 for Knight and $40,000 for Poates. It wasn’t immediately clear whether they had attorneys.

Knight was arrested June 5 for investigation of reckless driving and failure to provide proof of insurance.

Knight was a redshirt freshman running back who saw very limited action last season. Poates was an offensive lineman who was rejoining the program before he was dismissed this spring.

Knight announced on Twitter on May 28 that “I’m leaving Reno June 10th to attend Montana State.” The 6-foot-1, 225-pound back rushed for 10 yards on four carries and scored one touchdown as a freshman and was expected to provide depth to a Bobcats backfield led by two-time all-conference selection Cody Kirk.

MSU defensive line coach Bo Beck and running backs coach Demo Odems did not return messages seeking comment Saturday.

This was the point I was trying to make. He had issues even before he was arrested.

I agree with what you're saying here on some level. However this kid got the boot from Nevada for trouble and issues off the field PRIOR to the arrest for armed robbery and drugs. That should be a huge red flag. I think comparing him and his situation to JJ is comparing apples to oranges.

I'm still waiting on the names of these supposed OL transfers that someone seems to know about.
