I had heard rumblings of a few transfer options but there were no scholarships available for them, that was weeks ago though.
Well, there'd better be a couple of f***[*] rock stars waiting in the wings then, because this class is a big fat "meh", so far.
:thumb:havgrizfan said:Man, it sure does seem like a lot of people are having a hard time grasping what's going on with UM's recruiting. First, this was ALWAYS going to be a smaller than average class for a couple of important reasons. 1. The senior class wasn't huge. Great players yes, big numbers no. 2. There are currently quite a few IMPACT players on the 90-man who played this past season with either no assistance or a partial and were promised a bump for the 2014-15 school year. These guys have ALREADY EARNED that scholarship money, so that means less to go around for the upcoming class.
Secondly, it astonishes me how many people are surprised by this process. Isn't EVERY true Griz fan aware of the NCAA sanctions? Less scholarships means less recruits. PERIOD THE END. Not to mention, this is the first year in which the four less schollies take effect. No Montana coaching staff has had to go through something like this before. They are learning to deal with this on the fly. I think they deserve a bit of slack. Can you imagine how hard it is for Justin Green and others to sit down and look kids in the eye and tell them how greatly they want them to be a Griz, how much they NEED them to be a Griz, then ask their parents to pay for a year, possibly two? And I'm talking about recruits who would normally get money, not walk-on type players. THAT is what's going on with UM right now. Anyone who didn't see this coming when the sanctions were announced wasn't paying very close attention.

I don't even look at this as an argument....just a difference of opinion on strength of recruiting class....well within the guidelines and requirements of e- griz.....it looks to be weaker than last year to me too, imo

Yeah I get all of that. I'm just saying that I'm not impressed with our current commits. I understand the number issues, but the quality of guys we have committed is not up to the level of years past IMO. I also wan't very impressed with last years class save a couple guys.havgrizfan said:Man, it sure does seem like a lot of people are having a hard time grasping what's going on with UM's recruiting. I've wondered all of these things too and don't know the answer. When those numbers were released the school acted as if working well below the scholarship limit was a normal thing for programs to do. This makes absolutely no sense to me.PlayerRep said:There's likely a difference between the number of offered schollies and the number of schollies actually used. It could be that UM's used number is low only because players quit, retire, get kicked off the team, etc. during the term of their schollie, and the schollie isn't given to someone else during the term of the schollie.
Can such a schollie be awarded to someone else during the term of the original schollie? I assume this can be done at a semester break, but don't know.
Can such a schollie be awarded/used in the middle of a semester if someone leaves during a semester (and there is money yet to be paid out)?
The numbers UM released make no sense to me. Why would a school not used all or almost all of its schollies? I suppose a schollie could be held back for a possible transfer after spring ball and over the summer, but that still wouldn't explain UM's relatively low numbers--I don't think.
 I never understood this until now. Thanks for the clear explanation.griz4life said:This below the limit scholarship issue is all about attrition. Sure, Montana might have 61 active scholarships, but that doesn't mean it's intentional.
Remember when the self-imposed reduction (not imposed by NCAA) was announced? What did Mick say? He said the program had to do a better job of retaining students. If Montana can actually stay at 59 scholarships for three years and not fall below that because of attrition, it will be an extraordinary accomplishment.

Let me also just say that unlike some, I have full confidence in our current coaching staff to offer the right guys. Just by the video that's available on these guys, I'm not super impressed.

P.S. Grizindabox i thought you were reasonably intelligent, your recent posts have showed me that assumption was false. :bad:
