the 'no talent' spiel doesn't pass the eye test.

I think your eyes should watch the OL play on the fatal play from the 1 yesterday and tell me if they match up with the Cats DL.

what about the plays that got them down to the goal line?

You do realize that playcalling and scheme can be used to minimize weakness? Ever wonder why the Griz had most success with quick throws or the QB rolling out? The Griz didn't have much success just lining up and trying to win manning up.

Could have had something to do with the fact that it was the second time they saw it out of the same formation with the same snap count less than a minute earlier and were able to confer with coaches right before. If our reserve/feature back would have held onto the ball and was stopped short, I have full faith that Hauck and Rosie would have run the same play a third time.

So, why do it twice in a row with the season in the balance from the 4 inch line?

Maybe, but lets not act like that is the only time all year that the OL was manhandled in those type of situations.

You would have to ask them for their reasoning.

First choice was to run the fumblerooski, but the mesh point on the pulling guard was suspect during practice.

or the fact that the fumblerooski is not a legal play

Nope, but that was the only situation that mattered. It's a situational game, and our staff fucked up the situation much more than the players on the offensive line. It was absolutely inexcusable and unaccpetable. Gotta be better than that.

My guess is whoever called the play (Rosy or Bobby) overthought it. They figured since the Cats called a timeout and saw the play formation that the Cats would assume we were going to change it. Instead they stuck with it, thinking the Cats would adjust the defense with the assumption we would change our play since they saw the formation. Or Bobby just wanted to try to “outman” them and beat them by putting a hat on a hat and winning the trench and shove it down their throat. Didnt care if they knew what play was coming.

What makes anyone think a QB sneak would have been successful with that type of OL play? The coaches may have shit the bed on that call, but they called a play they felt would be successful. But the OL on that play was terrible, and I for one hope for better.

I'm sure they had their reasons, and I'm sure it's way above my level of understanding of moving the football four inches to make the playoffs. My feeble mind thought it might be possible with two plays and a timeout remaining.

TBH, with how badly they blew up the OL on that play, I am not sure any interior running play would have had much success.

what kind of a coach can't recognize their terrible line play and call something will work? maybe the kind of coach with a line that isn't shitty?

Probably not. Yates won that play unfortunately. A good individual edfort that our line didnt match.

argh, with all your coaching knowledge, what play would you suggest they should have called?

The center was pushed back to the 5 and the guard whiffed.

There's a dry half joke in there somewhere.
