Very impressive post.....only thing I disagree with is that NDSU will move up to FBS anytime soon. It would be suicide if they did.

Elaborate. Why would ndsu moving up be suicide? I'm on the fence about it and don't know enough to have an informative opinion but I think ndsu could easily compete for a ranked position now let alone what they could do with some extra schollies. I don't think their attendance would suffer much either because isn't their stadium actually fairly small given their fan base? I feel like ndsu could fill a stadium the size of wa griz easier than we could

There is zero interest from the MWC schools in the Bison. There is very little support among the NDSU fan base for a move to FBS. Add that to the fact that the Fargodome is about 15,000 seats short and that oil is below $30 a barrel. A new stadium would have to be an indoor facility since the games later in the season would be too cold for the casual fans. It ain't happenin' in my lifetime.

there IS interest in NDSU moving to the Mountain West, just haven't gotten the invite yet. There's a LOT of small town nodak'ers that scared to death of change, they breed complacency and quite frankly I hate it.

Fargo Dome averaged 19,500 fans, that's better than 4 teams in the MWC (paid tickets) and Id say actual butts in seats puts them about #3 or #4

time for NDSU to FBS!

ps- CDA you know dam well that NDSU basketball beat Oklahoma in the Big Dance 2 years ago and fought Gonzaga til the end last year. nice troll try.

GA Southern, Montana, Marshall, and App State aside, I honestly thought the T-Buffs were built for the big time. I thought so for about three years until I saw how they folded on the main stage and read more insight from T-Buff fans. The more I learn about the school and athletic department, the more I realize they definitely aren't ready to make any sort of move. UNDSU is exactly where it should be; the Wisconsin-Whitewater of ESPN3.

Sam, that is total bullshit. Good grief..... You live in Minnesota and have no clue what is going on inside the MWC. At least I live in the footprint of the MWC and sleep with the sister of a MWC AD. The talk of NDSU to FBS and the MWC holds no water.

I have absolutely no recollection of any North Dakota team playing on the main stage outside of the T-Buffs getting beat at WaGriz and the Zag game in the dance. I didn't remember which ND team it was. I don't tend to remember first round games unless the Zags lose (which has definitely happened). So, please accept my sincere apologies for not remembering about UND-GU last year in the Dance. :thumb:

Then do it. You join the ranks of stupid things people say without thinking. Like you're legit saying that in the next 5 years it is more likely for NDSU to win all 5 then for the field to win 1. That's insane. Your odds are probably around 150 to 1 if not worse.

Wonder what the odds were the LAST 5 years?  The rest of FCS is getting WORSE, not better. The gap is widening. If you don't see that, you're either blind or in some serious denial.

I'm not denying what they did was great. But saying odds are in their favor to do it again in the next 5 years is simply wrong

Where did I say the odds were in their favor?

So you're saying if NDSU doesn't move up you would take them to win the next 5 championships over the field winning none?

Barring a spate of injuries, yes.

Barring a spate of injuries, yes.

Reading is fundamental. That is totally different than saying the odds are in their favor.

I don't think those are totally different. In your eyes you think it is more likely for them to win 5 more NC in 5 years than any other FCS team wins a championship.

I mean... most people would say that you think the odds are in their favor.

I said I would take them to win. That most certainly does NOT mean I think the odds are in their favor. Have you EVER placed a bet in Vegas?

I guess I understand what you're trying to say. I disagree with how you say it. It is extreme to think they would win all 5. That's where this whole convo started.

As far as betting in vegas...I will admit I am an avid gambler. I'm very well aware of how odds work

Geography would be an issue w/ the Mtn West. 1800 miles from San Diego to Fargo and New Mexico, San Jose, UNLV, Fresno, and Nevada ain't a lot closer, not to mention Hawaii. The MAC would be a great fit though. Mostly mid west teams and only 13 teams in the con with 7 from the east and 6 from the west. I could see them winning it right away too.

If they have to start competing with FBS school their little recruiting niche of Big 10 fringe players goes away. If I'm borderline FBS talent why would I now choose to go to Fargo over a MAC or low teir Big 10 school?

Feeling inspired to determine the best school in the history of the FCS(1-AA for the old schoolers like me), I went into a very in depth look at each team and the conference's history since the 1-AA first formed back in 1978.

Holy carp, that's an incredible piece of work!

So many questions... how did you analyze the data, where did you get your data, etc... I'm still boggled about the best 10-year record... I'd have to run the 37 SQL queries to get that information just for that.

Are you a wizard?

For the record, GSU is still #1 in my mind.

I pretty much got most of my info from this site.
http://michigan-football.com/ncaa/f/montana.htm
I found it by accident one day looking up Montana's historical record. That link will take you to a yearly breakdown of every game Montana played since 1952. It includes scores of every game, what conferences the teams were in, yearly records, and head to head records. It also includes links to every team just by clicking on their name. I used these sites to figure out every team's record and then used the Wikipedia pages for all the conference's to find out years of membership affiliations and history's. Basically it was a WHOLE bunch of adding. I'm sure if you double checked all my numbers, some might be off a little bit but luckily I don't think anyone else has time for all that. :D

It's extreme to think they would win all five. But given their recent history it's certainly NOT out of the question, and it'd be a nice tidy sum if I happened to be in Vegas and could find some sports book willing to make me a 5-way parlay on the next 5 FCS championship games--and then it happened. But, if you know odds, you know ANY parlay beyond about 2 or 3 the odds go down astronomically....but it'd be worth a $100 bet just in case....because there certainly isn't any OTHER team out there you'd make the same bet on.

Not so fast, AZ. I donate $100 per year to a Vegas casino saying that MSU will win . . . it . . . all . . . that year (heard it in a song). I haven't won yet, but when I do, I'll be living it up in one of the finest resorts in all of the greater Fresno area eating chicken fried steak and sipping a cold Cutty Sark on the rocks. I'll probably pick up a couple gals with those old school, 1990s, over-the-muscle boob jobs. It's what I grew up on.
