Top 10-15 High School Players

I'm assuming we are just talking about their skills now, and not college potential, becuase if that is the case, then Roche Estes from Anaconda is also a great player. He's too small for college, but he's really quick and can score. Gus McDonald from St. Ignatius is tough to guard too.

.

is roche related to wayne estes?

You have to like the Estes name on an Anaconda basketball player. Wayne Estes was the greatest example of a class in a person you could ever ask for and he gave his life so that he could help others.

Anyway, I know that this is a top basketball players thread. I'll admit that I agree with everyone's assessment here. I haven't seen any high school basketball this year so I don't have any insights, except maybe that Bobby Howard is a good one.

While I wasn't alive back then I have heard many stories of Wayne being a good guy. However I am pretty sure that he wasn't trying to help anybody when he was electrocuted, he & a teammate were just checking out a cleaned up crash scene when a downed powerline that had been missed happened to strike Wayne. The funny thing is that during the game earlier that night he kept telling his coach that hands felt numb.

OK, all I've heard is that he was a good guy. I thought he was doing something heroic at the time, maybe not. You've probably heard the story better growing up in Anaconda. The saddest irony was that he had the best game of his life earlier that night.

Any word on any girls from Havre, Browning, Lewistown, Baker, Malta, Townsend? These teams usually have good girls teams and just curious if any opinions on these, plus I did see that Baker, Townsend & Malta were the top 3 in the last power poll and really haven't heard about any of these kids. Thanks.

Thanks to everyone that has responded....any players from the Hi-Line or eastern part of the state?

Doug Selvig's boy Derrick (Glendive). 6'10" I heard. Haven't seen him play. I live in Billings and they make the Central/Laurel swing in mid to late Feb I think.

Heard Bobby Knight was to come watch him play, can't be too bad.

For anyone who doesn't know about Wayne Estes here is a link to a nice article about him in the Montana Standard

A little known kid that could be good is Zach DeJong from Manhattan Christian. He's a very athletic kid that has a solid jumpshot. He's a good 3-point shooter and has a good mid-range shot too. He's about 6'3 and could possibly grow some more as his dad is about 6'4-6'5. He's also a good rebounder, his stats aren't always that great b/c he's on a senior-loaded team, but next year you should be able to see what he's able to do. One of the few weaknesses I've seen with him is that it doesn't always seem like he's trying his hardest.

Yeah, I'm actually not at all related to him. But you can think what you like, I was just trying to give my opinion of a player I thought was good, and maybe you should wait until you see him play.

Thanks for the info on the Manhattan Christian kid!! I have heard there a few kids from Christian that are worth picking up possibly. I'll have to keep my eye out for them. Is DeJong a junior?

Yes Manhattan Christian is in Montana just west of Bozeman. It is actually in Amsterdam just across the interstate from Manhattan.

DeJong is a junior and I would say that out of everybody on the team he has the most potential. He's also one of only 2 juniors that starts on the team and plays a lot. Basically everybody else is a senior.

Class C / Northeast

Shade Stiles and Kalvin Reichelt - Whitewater
Dane Hancock - Froid Lake

Class B / Northeast

Wyatt Atkinson and Scott Smoker - Poplar
Bigby - Harlem
Brady Smith and Evan Etchart - Glasgow
Brock Copenhaver - Wolf Point
Young - Plentywood

All worth a look.
