Tonight's game

Watched the whole game...not overly impressed. A win is a win and they put up some stats but the 2 team playing a bad team should have showed a lot more. Look at what ND did to Valpo. The run d seemed spotty some times there were 5 on a tackle other times the runner was 8 downfield very quickly. I don't think they showed a lot and if I were a cat fan I'd probably be happy. I think they're going to run into some serious competition next week and down the schedule that will really show us what they are made of.

Grizo, fully agree. I think big o-line's can hurt MSU's front four. Knid of think deep down the MSU coaches and many fans knew going in that the d-line was possibly their one real question mark.

So Griz-o matic what did you think of monmouths offense(or lack of)?

MSUs' secondary &linebackers are good, with some depth. The defensive line is fast, and good, but it remains to be seen how they handle a big offensive line. I thought I read or heard somewhere that Monmouth had a decent o-line, however, the Cats destroyed the line with the 1st team. SMU is not Monmouth, and I want to see what SMU does with that fast FCS d- line.

Monmouth can thank Ash for calling off the dogs early. #mismatch

If you're a bobcat you have to feel pretty good. The Cats OL was dominant and they have a lot of weapons on offense, with a lot of depth at the skill positions. The concern I would have, as already stated, is their size on the DL. They played a good game, especially Daly, but it's evident that they could have a tough time against a power running game with a larger OL. A lot of FCS teams have a difficult time recruiting effective size at the DT position and I think MSU is going to wish they had some more heft there as they play stronger teams.

Sorry to say it, but all in all, they played up to their ranking tonight and definitely have the talent to win the BSC if they can keep people healthy. Can't deny that they are a very good team.

I don't think that it is necessarily size that the Cats need along the defensive line. They have Connor Thomas at 6'3" 290 and true freshman Hays 6'1" 295 available. What they need is a lot of playing time especially for Sheridan, Dees, Vick at DT position and Coe at DE position.

They went up against a senior laden (4 starters) offensive line that average 310lbs across the line. What we are missing is that developed playmaker to compliment Daly. Our DE that we lost to injury (Gales) was tearing it up during fall practice and is a nice compliment to Daly. Coe isn't as explosive there.

When NDSU won their first NC championship (current run) their defensive line was 250, 260, 280, 250 across the line...Not massive but playmakers...that is what MSU has to develop along the interior and they don't have much time to do that...

I was impressed with the new running back Johnson?? I think, good burst and arn well. Don't know if he's nw but I've never noticed him before.

Three things I got from this game.

Shawn Johnson is better than Cody Kirk. Heck Cody might be the worst RB that played last night.
Brad Daly is impressive.
Monmouth looked very slow.

Totally agree. I think MU lost quite a few guys. Sure didn't look like team that could beat a layoff contender. I think Carroll would tear this MU team apart.

On offense MU has basically everyone back from last year except the QB

Well the QB alone is enough to make or break a team. I don't wanna cause an argument but, I thought they lost a couple more on the O than just their QB

The QB was a UMass (FBS D1) transfer who started last year... hardly a rookie!! Give the Cats some props for Christ sake!

the whole OL, star WR, TE and RB returned form last year. The QB was is a transfer from UMASS that played in 7 games as a freshman in 2011, injured in 2012 transferred to MU this summer

MU's size on the front line wasn't the issue, (avg of 6'4 and 305 lbs), it was their lack of speed out of the stance. In the first half MU did have some success running the ball, not enough obviously. But it's not the size of the front lines that MSU will face that will be the issue but rather the speed of thos offensive lines. Based on last night a big quick and mobile offensive line could give MSU trouble, particularly early.

This was a good game to open with for MSU despite the criticism. There was never a question of who would win. It was a game that was geared toward finding out what they needed to work on going into a much tougher match next week.

MSU did exactly what it was supposed to do, put the game away early, win big, and avoid injuries. Whether they found much out other than the defensive line issues is questionable. A win is a win, but if anyone in Cat Nation thinks this was a test that would show them how great they think they are, is simply delusional. This is what was supposed to happen, nothing more, nothing less.

I'll put it very mildly.....................who cares!

This...I'll start paying attention to the kitties around mid-November. We have enough to keep ourselves busy until then.
