Some guy named Shaquille O' Neal gave a free throw shooting clinic earlier this week. Anyone know anything about him?

Thanks Shaq...for the brick fest. I know I said I was going to shut up about the free throw shooting, but 11-27, just over 40%...come on, I don't care if it's an exhibition, make some free throws.

ORT,

I blame you now. Everytime you mention the percentage it goes lower. :thumb:

I'm pleading the 5th....as such, I have no further comment.

Aside from the FT Shooting debacle, there were some positve signs. Very few turnovers while rotating players and combinations throughot the game. High assist to turnover ratio. Solid FG and 3PT percentage. Qvale had a great 1st game as did Ceylon Elgin-Taylor. Obvioulsy this game doesn't mean a thing, but I have also seen Griz teams play to the level of the competition and they did not do that tonight.

I sounds like Qvale looked really good..He will be a BIG contributor this Year !! It could make for a nice power line up at times.
Selvig looks to red shirt ?
Staudacher started for the firs time...and if he keeps hitting 50%
from three... that will be great!

It sounded like good team play.

But lets hear from some guys that were there tonight..

It is hard to tell if they are ready for the like of the Zags at a sold out
kennel...(by the way I saw that game is on tv on Fox Sports Northwest)

What were Qvale's numbers? maybe we use his size against these tough schools.

Qvale had 10 points and 10 rebounds, and 3 blocks in 16 minutes. He also was 2-10 from the FT line.

Just got back from the game.

Qvale looks very good, getting a double-double in his first game as a Griz even though it won't count in the official season stats due to this being an exhibition. I believe he will shoot better from the freethrow line than he did today. 10 points and 10 rebounds. Forget the freethrow shooting- I am going to chalk it up to first game jitters.

Strait still shoots bad from the freethrow line and appears he hasn't improved much. Still has a usually good inside game, though.

Hasquet lead the team in scoring and appears to me that he will be the leader and go to guy.

Game started out really slow, 2 points from Hasquet the first 5 minutes, but things started to loosen up for the Griz when Qvale and Elgin-Taylor came in. Since they went in, everyone just seemed to loosen up and started to hit including the starters who just couldn't get anything done the first 5 minutes. This being the first game against anybody else but themselves had much to do with this. Next game shouldn't start out so slow.

Maybe next game will change things, but Qvale should play this year, and Selvig should redshirt. Not sure what is with Zach Graves, only got in the game in last 5 minutes. Vanderjagt didn't get to play but possibly due to injury he had earlier and not ready yet.

Can't wait till next game, Sunday November 4th at 2pm. Lady Griz at 4pm. How are they going to deal with season ticket holders for Men's and Women's basketball. Going to kick the fans of the mens game out. Considering games last around 2 hours, the Lady Griz game starts 2 hours after start of men's game. I sit behind Lady Griz bench, but on east side for men's games. Going to be interesting if I have to kick some person out of my Lady Griz seat when I make the switch.

Actually, just checked stats, and Strait lead the Griz in scoring with 16 points, and Hasquet had 14 points. Sheesh.

I just got back from the game. Attendance looked to be in the 500-800 range. Qvale is aggressive, skilled and relatively quick. He looks like he has been groomed to be a post player since he was very young. He also shot free throws well in last week's scrimmage. I think he will be fine as well the rest of the team. There had to be some jitters tonight. Others also shot free throws poorly. I really liked Elgin Taylor. He rebounds, passes and defends well. I thought the offense finally started to jell in the first half after he came in. Vanderjagt did not play and Graves and Spurgetis did not play much. I hope Vanderjagt is offered and accepts a redshirt year. It is hard to see him being ahead of Qvale at this point. After Strait graduates, available post minutes will be in far greater quantity. I also have to wonder if Selvig is also a redshirt candidate. Hurley was not in uniform.

I agree on VJ taking a redshirt along with Selvig, who needs a year with the Griz strength coach and then watch out for him. I think CET and Qvale will make a nice impact. I hate to say it, but I am already thinking ahead to next seasons team with McGillis and the EWU transfer.

There is no shame in a redshirt year. They worked out pretty well for a couple of guys named Criswell and Hasquet. Larry K said playing as a true freshman is substituting your worst year for your best. Both Hasquet and Selvig played some 3 tonight. Also, Staudacher started at the 3 and shot well. I don't think he had any rebounds, though. This still seems to be the most unsettled position.

I don't know anyone who said there was any shame taking a redshirt year. I don't think Vanderjagts family is too keen on the idea though, maybe they will come around after seeing what happenned last season. I just don't see that kid making much of an impact unless he matures more physcially. Another year would really help him.

Nobody did say there was shame in a redshirt year. I was just giving an opinion. Ideally, every freshman would be able to redshirt.

I've heard Selvig has a redicuously high ceiling. Very skilled and athletic/fluent for his size. He is still growing (heard he is up to 7' now) and could use a year to fill out. He could be a great one.

Might as well save a year when for when he's fully developed instead of playing what will total up to less than 40 minutes this year.
