Meh, we'll see. There are dozens and dozens and dozens and dozens of that type of player in the NFL. Wish him well, but I think sure success is far from guaranteed.
I think you could say that with most NFL draft picks outside of the 1st Round. It is pretty crazy the level of talent. Often it is just finding the right fit. I hope he does well. I think they drafted him with a plan in mind. But the Raiders have upgradedon the offensive side of the ball in off season. He will have to excel on special teams to make the 53 man roster. He is fast and smart which will benefit him if asked to fill multiple roles. The comments from Tom Mcmahon Raiders Special Teams coach makes it seem like they will use him as an up back in punt formation which would make a fake punt always a possibility. Hopefully the fakes he puts in are better than the one he used with Colt Anderson when he was Special Teams coach with the Colts.

I hope both Tommy and Junior have a real bright future with the Raiders and '49ers and in The NFL. I think a lot will depend on health for both !!! As our own GRIZ great Marc Mariani found out, being a PR and KR in the NFL can be a pretty brutal profession !!!

Are you suggesting there are not 4 or 5 WRs on every nfl roster with skills equal to merlots? Cmon.
The chiefs alone have like 6 WRs in their room with 4.3 speed.

And the point being is they’re on the roster. You’re kinda acting like he’s not gonna make it and doesn’t have big play potential.

After a relatively quick google search, KC has four WR’s with sub 4.4 40’s, one of which will be a rookie. All the others are 4.5-6.
He was drafted. Outside of something strange happening, he'll make the roster (or the practice squad). I'm simply saying it's far too early and likely unrealistic to say he's going to have a superstar career. And yes, guys like him are ubiquitous in the nfl

Pretty sure the phrase used was “bright future”, not superstar. As far as I’m concerned, getting drafted in the nfl alone is a pretty bright future. If that’s “meh” to you, then you must have a pretty awesome exciting life.
It depends on how they want to use them. I think teams have seen how the Saints used Taysum Hill. I think he can be a valuable addition to Raiders roster. The Raiders have stars (or potential stars) in Brock Bowers, Ashton Jeanty and Jack Bech. As a Raiders fan I like that i can cheer for him now.

Agree 100%. Getting drafted in the nfl is a remarkable feat in itself. Absolutely no arguments whatsoever. But yes, "bright future" seems to suggest outstanding accomplishments in the, you know, future.
Whether that happens or not who knows, but any objective person would realize it's going to be an uphill battle. Takes nothing away from what he's done so far.

Can agree with that but after witnessing Tommy for 3+ years, I’d say he’s prepared for that uphill battle and I hope the best for him. I think in the Vegas rebuild, he’s in a real good spot with Chip as his coach. Give him a couple healthy years and I definitely see a bright future for him too.
I think “Bright future” would be lasting a few years in the league. Very few real stars. A lot with great careers. Each year another group of rookies trying to take your job. Colt Anderson and Tim Hauck had great careers but few NFL fans would know them. They had longevity based on great special teams play. I think Tommy is more in line with Mark Mariani as far as potential. Has there been a more dominant offensive player in Big Sky since Cooper Kupp than Tommy? Not a statement a question.
First of all, you are talking out of your ass when you say there are “dozens and dozens” of players like him. Running a 4.39 with a 40 inch vertical is elite even by NFL standards.
Never claimed its guaranteed. But with his measurables and intelligence, it makes it hell of a lot more likely.
Dude, please. Nolan Smith is a defensive end (a DE!!!!) and he ran a 4.39 with a 41.5 vert.
While still elite, those numbers are far from outliers in today's nfl. Particularly at skill positions.
