Today the BSC is officially 13 strong!

Congrats guys does anyone see a separation the big sky conference? Just curious if so I would hope to see that cream of the crop rise and the vandals join em.

Griz its already started as a wild ride for both our schools in different ways.
You guys will go deep into the playoffs.

Once again best of luck. Hope to play yah soon.

Thanks for the kind words! I do see a sort of separation in the BSC, but I feel that it is a good mix of schools who have it going on & those who... don't.

Maybe not 13 strong, but the Big Sky just got stronger as a conference. Also the academic profile just went up. The top three football programs in the Big Sky in terms of GPI are Cal Poly, UC Davis and UND.
Adding Cal Poly is a huge plus in multiple areas, but especially academics. Welcome to the BSC Mustangs.
What are the multiple areas besides football and academics? Travel costs?
Every team in the Big Sky (all 13 football teams) had at least 1 California recruit in 2012 so I would say adding two more California teams can only help in recruiting. Parents will like the fact that most years the Big Sky teams that their son may play for (for the 10 Big Sky teams not in California) will be playing at least one game in the state of California. A recruit can also attend the game(s) in California of the teams that are recruiting him during his senior year and not have to book a flight or burn an official trip to do so.

Personally, I can't wait to see San Luis Obispo...I've always heard it's a great town. Nicer than Logan, Utah even.

It is not called "Slotown" for nothing....pretty and small, great weather, a typical California college town...my favorite would be Davis and Chico..too bad Chico State has no team....it is also Butte County...Griz fans and alumni turn out in large numbers....I suspect the same will happen in Cedar City, Utah, bringing massive wringing of Mormon hands at the sight of Montanans on the loose with their cousins from California and Las Vegas...that alone will justify adding SUU....

Would take one there tomorrow if offered.

Don't know what you do, but there are lots of jobs in nearby Paso Robles, Santa Maria, the Pismo area...for all the negative talking head crap on talk radio and tv, 89% of Californians have jobs, and many are going unfilled because of undereducation, or language difficulties. Another good area is Hanford, looks like a college town but has none..good luck...

I'm with you on that AZ! I would love to live there too. Hard to beat the small towns on the Central Coast for weather and scenery.

An added plus: Their fans were awesome....they have an above-average tailgating party, and I didn't buy a drink all night after the game downtown...kind of like some place else I might have heard of....

Oh, and Slostang is a true friend and gentleman!

How is the playoff berth decided now? For instance, say two teams don't play head to head and both go undefeated.

I will say it first: I dislike all you other teams. Course bobcat pee comes first on the not like list!

Now I feel like playing some football!

I can just see it now. If one of the new teams win the Big Sky this year (I know that is a big IF), Kemajic still won't admit that the Big Sky is a stronger conference with the addition of the Great West teams. He will just say that it proves how far the Big Sky has dropped. If one of the Great West teams wins the National Championship he will then say that it proves how bad the FCS is and why the Griz need to move up.

That is a very big if and what does winning the BSC mean when you play 8 of 12 opponents, with no tie-breakers? There could be four or five co-champions. Even an undefeated team can't claim they beat the field. As it relates to how Great West teams do when they come to the BSC, we have UNC; they made the conferance so much stronger. Fullerton and the presidents reject NDSU and SDSU citing increased travel costs, instead admit doormat UNC and now blow the travel cost argument out of the water with the latest additions. They had their real chance then to make the conf. stronger and passed. NDSU was always a candidate to win a NC, the rest of the Great West, not so much. No consistancy; no leadership. That's my problem with the BSC.

+1

IMO, we need to snag one more school (hopefully UI), create two divisions, & implement a conference championship game. It will be interesting to see what happens if we move to a 14 team conference.

There is no time for conference championship games with the (particularly expanded) FCS playoffs.

That was then, this is now. Back when UNC joined conferences were stable. Not so much now. The Big Sky is stronger or more stable today with the addition of the GWFC teams. There might not be a true champion at the end of the year, but it won't matter because the conference will place 3 to 4 teams in he new expanded playoffs each year.

OK, when? On a Wednesday? The playoffs start the week after the regular season concludes. This year the regular season concludes the weekend of Nov. 17. The play-in games are the week of Nov. 24; the 1st round the weekend of Dec 1, quarterfinals the weekend of Dec. 8 and the semifinals Dec 15. The extended playoffs already could require 16 games for the finalists; and you want 17?
