Today’s Press Conference

I like the energy and the focus - keeping the spring simple and let the best rise to the top. Put your best players in positions to make big plays. I'm still not expecting a world-beating defense here but I think this guy brings some good edge and smarts to the role.

Sounds like (feedback from others) the EWU defensive coaches have been really impressed with the athletes we have here and the strength / recovery / nutrition support services compared to what they had there. When at EWU they felt they could get kids, but would lose them super fast. Here - guys want to come play and succeed here where EWU was more a "get me out of here as fast as possible" type of vibe.

I think there is a lot of tempered expectations for the defense next year but I actually think they will probably far exceed expectations.
I really love that he said that it's far more important how we play rather than what we play. I also love that he didn't give a base scheme for the defense like everyone wants to hear.
I am getting the feeling that BK will be a players coach in the sense that the kids will really want to be a part of this team. I think it is imperative that the griz establish a robust walkon program. Really court the players that were late bloomers in HS and want to be griz. I really think that having coach Baer on staff will pay dividends to the young defensive coaches. I think they will simplify the defense in order to utilize the athleticism of the players and make it truly fun for them.
This feels like uncharted waters for griz football and a chance to really create the culture where the kids really want to be part of the new beginning.

He did say they need more big bodies so that's something they're going to be adding over the summer. Which we pretty much all knew.

I like his passion and his energy. He seems like the guys would really click well with him. I'm excited to see how things change this year.
Just cut down on how many 3rd and Longs we give up and I'll be happy, that's ALL I want at this point.
