MBBALL To Be….Or Not To Be……

Stick to soccer. Guard play isn't going to take the BSC to the level of the ACC.

All of this is mute anyway when the P4 play smaller schools and immediately recruit the players they like, if they even play the smaller schools. The really good coaches have always gone where the money is (with very FEW exceptions) and now the players are able to do the same.

We rarely see talent the level of a Michael Ray Richardson or Damian Lillard to start with, but now they are surely sucked away with NIL money.

I expect this is where the big conferences finally are able to fully separate from Gonzaga at last.

Precisely the reason moving up in football will make Montana fully irrelevant.
Actually a basketball coach. I'm not saying to take the BSC conference to level of ACC, if UM recruited better guard play they could continue to be on the best in the BSC and maybe get a win or two against better teams in non-conference. You can't have 465 turnovers and expect to be good or efficient.

My point in which you missed is what incentive is there for BSC schools to invest in their basketball programs when they all share tournament money-units. The PAC and ACC and some others have incentivized basketball by instead of sharing money, the team that goes to the NCAAT get most of the money.

Not sure of the pre-BQ 2000s, but the best Griz teams of the last 15 or so years have always been driven by great guard play.
Anthony Johnson
Will Cherry
Kareem Jamar
Mike O
Ahmaad

combination of Whitney, Malik, Kai, Money, & Austin

There have been some great bigs like BQ, Breunig, & Akoh, but much more sparingly than our backcourt.

Now with NIL, any big that's put up solid numbers in the portal is probably someone that we can't afford.

I think we really need another pg that can get to the paint & put pressure on help defenders. Probably 2 if Money leaves.

So many times everyone was standing around waiting for Money to create, and even If he created a 2v1 situation a lot of guys weren't able to capitalize.

If we get a quick pg and a combo guard that can drive closeouts (actually that's hicks...would still like another) then our "shooters" Kepley and Isaac + catch & dunk guys like Taylor might have more success in a limited role.

The Montana Schools Basketball programs would actually benefit if the schools moved to a Mountain West type conference. More bids in Basketball, and better pay-out from March Madness games (as the conference would have a better shot at winning a game in it every year). Question is, do the Montana schools try and put more emphasis on Basketball, and less on Football?
Agree, even with the schools that are departing. Investing in basketball can lead to increased revenue and name recognition. Including Utah State's two games this year, over the last 6 years, the MWC had 32 tournament units. Also, a couple teams went to the NIT.

Hypothetical question... NOT SAYING DO THIS!!

What if the Montana Schools said "We are going to focus on Women's Basketball. We are going to build an NIL fund that would rival any other Western School in the Country". You spend X$ on marketing, Social Media, and Fast Break Clubs so that everyone in the State/West knows we are going to dominate.... Would that work? We have seen that there is VERY GOOD talent coming out of Montana High Schools. Market yourselves as "The Next ________ " and let the wins roll in.

Kepley and Isaac, they're average 3 pt shooters. Thompson is a true 3 pt shooter. He just needs more involvement in the offense. I'd also take Hicks at 3 pt shooting over Kepley and Isaac. Then again, perimeter shooting is 1 skill set that can be dramatically improved in the off season.

So for that to be a success, they'd have to be the next Stanford and i don't think theres room for two Stanford's in Montana.

Ya. They were below average players last season who played a lot of minutes and had probly more on court responsibilities than their capabilities allowed.

But in very specific situations they can be effective. Every good team has a 4th or 5th option that can hit a 3 or get a drop off dunk when all the attention is on better players creating advantages.

The point of my post is that we need much better creators to help manufacture easier opportunities for role players like Kepley and Issak. That can be done by getting a couple more players capable of putting pressure on the rim & paint.

Two vandal and 2 WSU players are entering the portal

It’s doable but more doable on the guys side. Look at Gonzaga, they built a good program in Spokane. You need 3 studs and good role players. The NCAAT units could provide more money in the long run than FCS football. How much does Montana make on football per year.

NM State Athletics announced today a landmark partnership with Inn of the Mountain Gods, which will become the exclusive jersey patch partner for Aggie Athletics beginning with the 2026-27 seasons.

What will be the reaction if/when MSU get a better revenue deal for patches?? This is where UM or MSU can really separate themselves with revenue generation.

Press releases sure play fast and loose with words like 'landmark' and 'groundbreaking"

Curious, who do you see as possible patch sponsors and what type of $$$ do you really think UM/MSU can generate?

You all call Griz Football the Meca lets see if its worth any sponsorship money. I would say anything under a 5000K /year would be a disappointment. Patches on all team jerseys, on the football field, basketball court and soccer field as well. Logo on the football field goal nets.

Bill Foley -billionaire who owns the NHL Golden Knights, the Rock Creek Cattle Company in Deer Lodge, Montana. He also owns Whitefish Mountain Resort and the Glacier Restaurant Group in Montana. Some on here said his sons played for the Griz.

DW - you know the Washington Group - Worth 7 Billion
Austen Cargill- Lives in Livingston, Cargill food company fortune.
Marianne Liebman - Lives in Bozeman - Cargill food company
Linda Pritzker - Missoula, Hyatt Hotels
Nicholas Woodman - Big Sky - Founder of Go Pro

I have never referred to it as "Meca".

Second, I don't think FCS comes anywhere close to 5000K/year.

Bill Foley’s grandson used to be on the Griz football team. Played isn’t exactly accurate because he didn’t get on the field in a game and it has been over 10 years since then.

You still make the call unless no one within the AD has reached out in the last 10 years
