I've heard only negative comments on egriz about the coverage of the investigation and trial and from what I have read I readily agree. The Missoulian in general and Gwen Florio in particular have shown a remarkable disdain for professional, balanced journalism.
You can complain all you want on egriz, you can complain to your coworkers, you can write a letter to the editor or you can do the only thing that really makes sense - you can stop buying their product.
Don't just fail to renew your subscription. Call the publisher or editor and explain why you are cancelling your subscription. If everyone who complained about their slanted coverage cancels their subscription over the next week they should see a few thousand cancellations. Someone locally would have to answer to Lee Enterprises for that kind of drop in circulation.
Do you own a business? Does your business advertise in the Missoulian? Perhaps you should look into other advertising options.
Lee Enterprises is a business. Their bottom line depends on circulation and advertising. Make a statement for once. Do you really need that daily paper or is it more important to take a stand and stop rewarding the kind of journalism that you've been complaining about for the past year.
I'm honestly not trying to organize a boycott. We are all free to support any business we feel provides a quality product at a reasonable price. But if you've spent the entire past year bitching about Gwen and the Missoulain then for crying out loud, do something about it.

If the Billings Gazette had done this poor of a job of reporting on a case - you are damn right I would not purchase another paper until they fired their reporter and made some changes. Hopefully Florio gets the hint on her own and finds another job (not in journalism). Until that happens I will Move on. Just move and watch the Griz start kicking ass. Karma will take care of things and this is the LAST post I will ever make referring to that POS paper and so called reporter. Now - let spring ball start!

Totally disagree. What people continually fail to realize is the newspaper is about more than the sports section and Gwen Florio. A newspaper is the lifeblood of a community. A historical record of daily activities.

What about that high school junior that had an awesome game and looks forward to seeing his/her name in the paper? How about the features that you can find in regard to happenings and events in Western Montana? How about those ads that can be found in the classifieds each day? Classic photos of the beauty of Missoula and the people in it. And the list goes on and on. Not everyone knows how to work a computer. Not everyone has access to a TV or the Internet....and the fact is local tv cannot begin to cover our community like a newspaper can.

Hate on Gwen all you want, but to not support a media that supports a community is foolish at best. Its not even the worse paper in the state. Read the Montana Standard sometime.

How many people does the Missoulian employ? Is it your wish to put dozens of people out of work simply because you dont like one person? I personally hate The Simpsons....but I still watch Fox. In other words skip over the articles you don't want to read.

Flame away.....I wont be back because I know how this post will go down...lol.

You're fucking right it's going down! How can you not like the Simpsons....mind bottling.

I absolutely cannot believe the Missoulian has allowed Ms. Florio to remain employed. I believe in a fair and factual reporting, I also believe that at times that can be a difficult task when you feel strongly about the story. Nonetheless, there was too much information out there that did not add up; and it was her absolute job to be un-biased. I can't help but feel that she has some "issues" that compromises her ability to report fairly. Now that this is over, I hope she does some evaulating and considers the impact of her actions and un-professional tactics that fueled this story. Now to the Missoulian: please hire men and women of integrity there must be a lot of qualified, intelligent and un-compromised potential applicants; until that happens I cancel my subscription.

I, for one, do not live in the area, but when I figured out the local paper was worthless, I stopped buying it. The question is, what are you prepared to do? If the Missoulian was worth a damn, they'd fire GF and her editor. The publisher no only condones this line of yellow journalism, but promotes it. The readers be damned, they have a monopoly. So unless you are prepared to say 'no more' and quit buying this bird cage liner, nothing will change. Business that advertise in the paper only prop it up. What are you prepared to do?

Nope. Wrong. You need to adapt to your buyers and if that means getting rid of a horrid employee like Gwen then so be it. If you don't, then the whole ship can go down. And don't get all misty eyed about non-varsity coverage because the shit-rag Missoulian never had good local coverage beyond varsity. They cut and paste AP stories instead of actually working. Go to hell Ordigger!
