we need to get a person like former griz Mike Chavez to recruit the players from the Montana reservations as the untapped potential is there. These kids could be an asset to the Griz like Chavez and Camel before him. More Montana kids equates to higher attendance in the stands: re Lady Griz!

Wins, quality home games, and an athletic department that gives a rats ass about Griz BB's success (and does something positive for it) would cause a bigger boost in attendance than loading the team up with Montana kids.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for trying to find gems in Montana, but recruiting the best players regardless of where they are from should be the goal of the coaching staff when it comes to recruiting. Do you have any players in mind from the reservation that you think Tinkle should be actively recruiting? I do wonder how many legit D1 talents go unnoticed on the reservations.

Just a side note... Weber who always tops the Big Sky in attendance has 0 players on their roster from Utah.

Not true, we had a redshirt freshman on the team. WSU is usually 1st on the Utah kids but if they are D1 talent they usually head to byu, utah, or usu. http://www.weberstatesports.com/Vie...DB_OEM_ID=8600&ATCLID=209280831&Q_SEASON=2013

I should have said active roster. I was going by ESPN which must not show redshirts.

Anyway, my point was that you recruit the best you can get...if they are from the state your team is in then great! If not, it shouldn't be looked at as a negative and I really doubt it causes people to not go to the games because there aren't enough kids from Utah or Montana on the team.

If we had as many players from Montana on the men's BB team as the Lady Griz do, we'd be fighting with SUU for the last spot in the Big Sky each year... There just isn't enough talent in Montana to put together a good D1 men's basketball team using a ton of Montana kids.
