Tinkle's name being mentioned

I have heard from a little cowboy birdy, that Wyoming real main target is Jeremy Cox an assistant with South Florida. Tinkle maybe a canidate they are loking at but don't think he is their top priority right now.

Cox was an assistant at Wyoming in the 90's and has conections with the AD staff there. He has been a successful coach at the D-2 level and has worked on the staffs at Texas A&M as well as Kentucky.

Tinkle has a pretty good team coming back next year it might be worth his while to stick around for the 2011-12 year, but I am told that Wyoming would triple Tinkle's current salary.

I see Tinkle staying and glad he is. FSU wouldn't be a bad gig though. Seems like he's done very well recruiting California and has the relationships down there to be able to be sucessful in Fresno. Either way, he's a great person and has done himself proud as the HC. All the players he's brought in have been good student athletes as well and have represented the school well. Tinks is a great role model to those kids and has the type of presence that they wouldn't want to dissapoint him off the court. I don't know, but I put alot of stock into that.

I don't see Tinks going anywhere. His first two years here weren't exactly spectacular, but the players have responded over time and have done so pretty well. The pool of talent is one of the best in the conference and I hope it remains so in years to come. The recruiting is better and it's panned out well the last two seasons.

Would a program like, say, Tennessee take a chance on someone like Tinkle? I doubt it, but you never know.

Wyo rumored to be offering $450K base, with another $200K in things like TV shows, etc. Add in another $50K in incentives. the new coach will earn from $650K to $700K a year.

Just to sweeten the pot there is a $500K signing bonus and a multi million dollar remodel of the 15K seat arena. Plus he can be in a conference where more than one team gets a NCAA bid.

Wow, thanks for the info to both you and Titleist. I had no idea that kind of coin could be made in Laramie. I know from what others have said about Tinkle that I have different priorities than he, but in my eyes, that would be tough to pass up.

If Tinkle could stick around and rack up some tourney runs, the door would open much farther. At present, though, one tourney bid out of five years is not the ratio that gets a dude paid. All I'm saying is that if I were in his shoes, I might take a hard look at a double or triple salary in a stronger conference.

Not to worry Tinks is not even on Utah's radar. They are looking for a coach from a major who has been a head coach and has a winning record.
Sounds like Dan Monson might get some consideration, he would seem to fit the bill. It does seem odd that Utah would consider Tinkle considering Utah beat Montana earlier in the season. Would the Utah fan base really accept a coach that couldn't beat the coach they just fired? I also would think Giacoletti would leave a bad taste about hiring BSC coaches. Maybe, just seems unlikely.

Dunlap is who wyo wants

I suspect Tinkle is down the ladder a bit for most schools and not really proven yet. I agree his best bet is to stay at UM and get some more wins under his belt.

Wyoming's football coach makes pretty good money too, about right in the middle of MWC coaches.

I think he stays. Why? He needs $350,000---$500,000 to make it meet the pain of moving with school kids. Even then I am not sure he moves. Many connections at UM. He stays with us for a few more years, if not longer.

Yeah, that is why they contacted O'Day for permission to talk to Tinkle

Oh wow, really? I've been following Utah's search a bit and I haven't ever heard his name mentioned. I even heard something about the Westminster coach, but nothing about Tinkle. I really have no inside info...

Playerep- griz lost 4 out of the last 6 games. With the talent they have on the team, that is a major meltdown.........

Not that I disagree, but I once knew this dude who was a cook at Outback Steakhouse. He had many connections within the Outback network. He liked the neighborhood that his particular Outback Steakhouse resided in. He grew up there. He wasn't killing it in the kitchen at Outback, but he was doing an above average job (given the steaks he had to work with).

Then, one day, these dudes from Boa Steakhouse called him offering him a job there. He was hesitant until they told him they would triple his $11/hour wage. He had such connections at Outback that he wasn't sure what to do. Then, somebody slapped him in the head and told him it was triple the coin if he went to work for Boa. He thought, 'Well, I might go there and be a bad cook, but they have to give me a chance for at least three or four years...by that time, I will have made the same amount of money that would take me 9-12 years to make at Outback; because I know Outback will never pay its cooks a commensurate wage.' He also thought, 'What if I stay at Outback, and in three or four years I don't become the cook they want me to become? What if the dudes at Outback fire me someday if I stay? Then I have to become an assistant cook at an Outback-equivalent. If I got fired from Boa after a four year stint, I could at least get a job as a cook at an Outback-equivalent.'

He went to Boa. He did alright, they just wanted their steaks faster. They fired him after four years. He made a more money in those four years at Boa than he would have made in 12 years staying at Outback. After being fired, instead of being relegated to being an assistant cook at an Outback-equivalent, he was hired as a cook at a PF Chang's. He knew it wasn't the big time, but at least he was a cook and not an assistant. And he felt good that he accelerated his earnings by 300% for four years, and afterward, he went back to what he made as a cook at Outback.

What the hell does that have to do with Applebees?

I don't agree. LBS was a very good team and played extremely well against UM. I don't hold that loss against the Griz. EWU was an unfortunate loss, but it happens in basketball and in conference play, especially on the road. Losing by a few in the conference championship, while disappointing, is nothing to be ashamed of. UNC was good this year, especially at home. And then there were the refs and horrible calls. UM's season was over at that time. The team as a whole was not into the next game, and Tinkle said as much. And Duq was a very good team, which played very well. I don't hold that loss against UM. The worst loss in those 4 games was EWU, and that was not a meltdown. The Griz had a terrific season.

That reminds me of this dude I knew who worked as a chef at Applebee's. He was doing OK, and these dudes from Ruth's Chris offered him a job for way more money. He turned it down because he liked Applebee's so much. Three years afterward, by no fault of his own, the food quality was going way down (as if it could get any lower at Applebee's). He got canned. He's now a waiter at CPK.

Wyoming names are changing and Tinkle not being mentioned.

Now we hear Kennedy from Murray State, Eric Reveno from Univ of Portland and Mike Dunlap from St Johns as leaders for the Wyo job. Although you never know who will surface in these things.

However Tinkle is being mentioned for the Fresno job along with Dunlap.

I suspect Utah is trying for the BYU coach but he will turn them down ;) no info there just a hunch. He was rumored not to be happy with BYU moving to the WCC.

Looks like we have the wrong Montana Coach for the Wyoming job. Blaine Taylor interviewed yesterday!! A lateral move from ODU to Wyoming at best!!
