Tinkle tells Fresno no

I see where Fresno hired a 9 year assistant from Texas. I would bet that Tinkle withdrew his name when he figured that he was probably down the list for picks. It did get him a raise and more years guaranteed so good for him. Now see if we go to NCAA next year.

You don't know if his name was down the list of picks. And I don't know if it wasn't. His resume should have stacked up well against the career assistant that Fresno picked. Could it possibly be that Wayne is a genuine person and we might believe him when he says he is happy in Missoula? Maybe he didn't feel Fresno was the right move for him right now. Anyway, I'm glad we have him for at least one more year.

I honestly believe Wayne, and his family are happy in Missoula. To me, Missoula is where they truly consider home. I have a feeling he is committed to the GRIZ for a longer time than most coaches are. I doubt if the men's program will ever have a Selvig type for duration, but do think it would take an awfully good job for Tinkle to leave before all his kids graduate.

A very good Pac 12 or MWC position in a better location than Fresno.

Too bad our football coaches do not more carefully consider what programs they are going to. Utah State, Wyoming, and UNLV are difficult gigs in football. For some damn reason though, I think BH will do something good at UNLV.

Glad to know Tinkle is back with all but one returnee. The young combination of Cherry and Jamar, would be hard to leave. I expect Cherry to take his game to another level. Jamar will be an all conference type next season. If the GRIZ find a consistent perimeter shooter or 2, look out!!! I think Jamar, Weisner, and Selvig are good options to start with.

I cannot wait for next season!!!!

Don't we already have that if we start Cherry @ PG and Kareem Jamar @ SG? That is, with Art Steward @ SF, then Selvig @ the PW and Hutchinson/Reader @ C. At least for the coming year it looks good to me with that starting lineup. With Ward, Wood and Stockton coming off the bench that helps as well. I like depth, especially over the entirety of the year into the postseason.

Thought this myself for a while now but... i've heard rumblings about tinks not wanting to up root ellie when she already knows where she goin, and a big priority to tinks is getting Tres better competion before college. not gonna happen here. IMHO.

got aworse feeling than before unfortunately but...

LOVE! what he has done so far

Maybe Tinkle will see Elle through graduation here, then move on. Then again, with Tinkle's connections, Tres will likely play a lot of travel basketball during the summer. I am sure they can find him a good travel team, or create one.

I know Tres is a pretty good baseball player too. Baseball was Wayne's preferred sport for a long while. Who knows? Maybe Tres will play baseball in the summers, maybe even pursue baseball. Regardless, I am sure Wayne and Lisa will support his decisions ahead of him the next few years. If he pursues basketball, he can still make it from Montana, just in a little different way than being from a bigger market with more talent.

I think Ward will start next year. Note that Kareem didn't play 2 this season.

Actually, Kareem played a ton at the two this year. I think he was the best ball handler for the Griz when Cherry wasn't on the floor. I also think he may start at the 2 next year with Stewart back at the three. :thumb:

Kareem started and played his best game as a Griz at the 2 against Duquense, with 22 points.

When Stockton got injured, Kareem did play a lot of 2, with Art getting most the minutes at SF. I loved Kareem playing guard, and Steward at SF. All the GRIZ need to do is find some outside shooting next year. Replacing Qvale will be tough. I believe we can replace his scoring, but rebounding and especially his defense will be tough.

I have a feeling we will be seeing a lot of Kareem and Steward posting up smaller players. Also defensively, I think it would make sense for Tinkle to implement more ball pressure. We shall see though.

I would love to see more pressure. I hope you are right about that. It would be great to see the Griz be able to pressure like Duquesne did against us, push the D to an even higher level. I really enjoyed watching the team pressure during the tournamnet with the likes of Butler and VCU. They were all over, save for the championship . . .

I have always believed that any Big Sky team which started recruiting smaller, quicker players, and played that full-court pressing defense like Butler, VCU, Duquense, and others play, would dominate the Big Sky. We did not have the personnel to play that style last season, with Q and Selvig. They are not quick enough. But, we have plenty of quickness returning, and, if the new recruits are as quick as I have heard, we just may be able to play that style.

True, but he was playing 2 for only 12:36 minutes of his 38 minutes in that game, according to my calculation. 10:30 in the first half when the team was playing poorly, and 2:06 in the second half when the team was playing better. While playing 2, he made 2 lay-ins and 1 free throw, for 5 points.
