Tinkle tells Fresno no

Tinkle to Fresno?

Done Deal.

If by "done" you mean, "I interviewed to get a nice pay raise from the state of Montana", then I would agree with you.

But I have no doubt there are 10,000 cat fans (are there 10,000 cat fans??) who are praying to whatever god they worship over there for it to happen, even though those same fine folks were absolutely convinced that Tinkle couldn't coach a lick when he was hired by UM.

Fresno is the armpit of California! Why anyone would want to live there is a mystery.

That's very true, but Arizona is California's butthole. Scottsdale is supposedly the jewel of the desert and it looks like West Covina. I'd rather be dead in California than alive in Arizona.

Actually, Fresno is not that bad...its environs are rural and agricultural. It has huge area support and FSU is the one uniting thing for the San Joaquin...not bad...I lived near there years and years ago and still remember how great it was to drive up to Yosemite or Kings Canyon, or San Luis Obispo in the spring with no crowds....Missoula has a lot in common with Fresno....on the other hand, Fresno is highly Hispanic and that seems to drive a lot of a certain type of person nuts....

I remember Scottsdale when it was ok...but why would anyone want to live in the Phoenix area defies logic..Sedona and Payson, Flagstaff, and even Tuscon are ok...but, damn....the parts of LA my friends refer to as "gangland and car chase country " Downey, Pomona, the Covinas, Bell closely resemble the entire Valley of the Sun.....ugh....give me Fresno and Hanford any time...

Tinks stays. Will get a few more "offers" but will stick around. Kids leave, then and only then will he "go".

Win an NCAA tourney game next year, flirt 550,000 --- 750,000 thousand bucks a season, then he may vamoose.

My thoughts too. I don't think he goes anywhere until his kids are all done with high school. After that though, I think he would jump at a chance to go bigger.

Maybe he will get the chance to coach son Trey at UM, then he stays even another 4 years.

How old is his son, and what kind of player is he?

This is dead on balls accurate in my opinion; with less sand and better weather.

You've gotta be on drugs, or fruits-n-nuts! Your L.A. bretheran are moving to Phoenix by the freakin thousands. We try to keep them out, but they just keep coming! Californication of Arizona, as well as Montana, continues unabated. The shortest book in the world .... "Fiscal Responsibility Within California State Government"

Then I suggest you and your liberal buddy stay among your own kind. You can eat burritos daily, drive your highly-mortgaged European cars, live in your 1700 square foot bung-hole-alo with your $3,500 monthly mortgage, and leave the smog for Yosemite every weekend.

Now that's just stereotyping. I hate Mexican food (every combo should be a #2). I have never financed a car. A bungalow isn't my style. $3,500? Ha! I wish. I have never been to Yosemite. People don't realize that the beach doesn't get the smog they get inland.

I will most definitely stay among my "kind." I guess AZ is great for those who like it, it's just not for me.

Sorry, but after all the crimes and gang activity, I have seen associated with the Fresno area, NO WAY I would put my kids in that area. Then again, with enough money, one could afford to be in a real secure place.

Isn't of the worse gangs in America named "Bulldogs", after Fresno State. I seen some gang TV show about them. The gangs in Fresno are pretty damn bad. Don't do it Wayne.

I don't think coaches go to Fresno to stay there very long. It's probably more of a stepping stone job, like coaching at UM (Kennedy excluded).

That said, I don't think Fresno will end up hiring him. I think we're safe for now.

For someone who lives in such a WONDERFULL happy place, you sound very bitter...I am among my kind,,,human beings, and love burritos, but prefer Mole...and my own car is not European but Japanese, and paid for, my kids have paid for German cars...I don't think I could live in a 1700 sft place anymore...I did that in college...my place now does have a mortgage...and it is roughly 3.5 times what you quote...and I don't go to Yosemite, much, anymore, but do have a second home in Palm Springs....So, I guess, I should be as bitter as you?

I wish more of the older, angry white people living in fear of everyone and everything different would move to Phoenix...that place is home base to them...

TV is made to be controversial. By that standard Montanans are drunken, gun totin, sexist unibomber types waiting for the end times to shoot anyone not white....that is the stereotype I have seen on TV....Fresno is a stepping stone for some, but a Butte guy did damn well there and is remembered even better!

Now that Lon Kruger is being considered for Oklahoma < http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=6281370" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; would anyone consider the Head coaching stint at UNLV a lot more attractive than many another school? Tinkle going to UNLV may be a possibility; of course, it all depends. That's up to UNLV to hire who they want and I suppose there'd be quite a few applicants for that one!!! A big name coach would certainly be considered, IMHO, considering the tradition, someone like ex-HC Gene Keady of Purdue now an assistant at St. John's, I suppose; but one never knows. They may decide on a rookie coach who has only been an assistant up to now. Depending. Tinkle looks pretty good for this position, though. The temptation here wouldn't be overlooked, I think, and it wouldn't surprise me any, if I was in a similar position.

It'd be awfully difficult to pass up, considering. That is, at least putting in an application for. I know I would, and I wouldn't blame him any.

Correct. I probably should have limited my comment to basketball coaches since the Tark era ended.

Would that be a guy by the name of Boyd Grant that had a 93 - 6 record with Southern Idaho when HC there from 1974-77? Or is Selland Arena still called 'Grant's Tomb?'

My guess was Jim Sweeney, but maybe I guessed incorrectly.
