Coaches are generally measured on three things. The successfulness of the program (wins/losses/championship), longevity at the program and money the program brings in.
So far record very similar, but Binford has one more year in the program. The men's programs does pull in more fans to games and fund-raises a little better, so on the money side the men's programs is doing a little better. On merit I would think they should be very close, on money pulled in the side Men's does have an advantage.
A fourth item that sometimes effects a coaches salary is, does a program take their coach for granted or will someone else offer him/her more.

can't ignore the marketplace. and the market for men's salaries is going into the stratosphere. calapari got $31 million over eight years, and oregon reportedly offered tom izzo even more. if the griz get these recruits, and do as well over the next year or two as i believe they can, tinkle will be a hot property, you can bet on that.

Absolutely not. What are about the other apparently minor areas: beating the cats, attendance, consistency, and winning the Big Sky regular season.

The head coach doesn't control attendance. He puts an exciting product on the floor, people show up. Tinkle did his part of the deal. The fans didn't.
And there are much bigger "big picture" things to consider than beating the Bobcats. This is D-1 basketball. There are only 2-3 Montanans in the game, anyway.
I think city is right. In the next 5 years we might find out exactly how deep TInkle's UM/Missoula roots run.

You have got to be kidding. So if we took up badminton and always beat the cats... I don't care if Selvig beats them 1000 times it's still women's basketball. I hope you don't think I'm putting women down but they are not in the same league as men's BB.IronMountainGriz&Cat said:

But, with the BSC championship game and great showing in the NCAA I think the fans will start coming back and if the future is as bright as some claim and the Griz start winning consistently then they will come back. Exciting product can only do so much, ya gotta win.

To the very casual fan that might only pay attention during the "big" games, they may have seen the Griz go 0-3 last year, or 1-4 if they caught the Big Sky champ game, but it was actually a really exciting season, IMO.
