Tinkle looking at some JC guards.

FYI: I hope the GRIZ take a "flyer" on Ethan Hopkins from Thompson Falls. This kid has a total game offensively, and has 1A offensive skills. His weakness is never being taught true man to man defense. He is athletic enough to learn defense with good coaching at the collegiate level. I know Hopkins wants to be GRIZ. Unfortunately for him, the past few summers have been spent at camps away from the GRIZ camp. I hear he is beginning to turn some heads at a few smaller 1A programs. Anyone with more insight, rumors, tidbits in the "know" on him?

My sources are not exactly the most reliable, but when KPAX featured him tonight, they echoed what a few others had been telling me. So now I am beginning to take this kid seriously too.

If he wants to be a Griz, then why is he not going to Griz camps? That seems strange to me. He might have to walkon because I don't see the Griz taking "a flyer" on this kid. Walking on at UM ins't such a bad deal. i can name afew kids who did that turned out to be all BSC players for the Griz and started as walkons.

Someone answer this for me. I do not want to wait until the coaches get back from the road.

Do we have an extra Scholarship to use now? Is it true that Giovanni Simms decided to leave the program? If so, I obvisously missed something somewhere somehow. If true, what happened? AThome, you seem to be close to the players, do you have any idea on Simms? Thanks in advance to anyone that will clue me in on this. :thumb:

I'm not too close anymore after giving up student managing to be in the student section but there was something written in the Kaimin yesterday. He transferred to a JuCo somewhere in the south after there were a lot of questions regarding his high school diploma. From what I've heard hadn't been cleared to play by the NCAA and he just wanted to get out of here and play somewhere. apparently, Tinks has not ruled him out from coming back.

Thanks, I for one would like to Simms back here. I met him this past summer, and the kids at camp loved his dunking exhibition. Even the misses were exciting.

As for Hopkins, from what I gather. A few coaches and friends led the family to believe Hopkins had major 1A talent, in turn he spent time at camps such as WSU, Gonzaga, WA, etc. He was led to believe those type of camps would benefit him more. That actually makes sense, being when he started his HS career Kennedy was here, and GRIZ camp was either nonexistent or next to it. LK and WT have worked hard to restore GRIZ camps. Andy Hill is phenomenal in organizing the camps.

I wish I knew someone Truly connected to Hopkins, would be nice to go on more than hearsay.

I've seen Zach Graves throw down a bit, he's got some great hops for his height so he should fill the dunking void once his redshirt year is over.

are we shopping for a good junior college coach also.....I am not to impressed with the one we have

Feel free to stay home when the GRIZ put it together under Tinkle. Hopefully this year. They do not want or need you on their bandwagon later. Get on now or stay off with such negativity toward our coach.

The other kid starting to turn heads is Tyler Hurley from Andconda. At 6-6 he has legit size, and his last 3 game (at least the ones I have seen) he has scored 41, 40, and 30 points. He has been averaging 28 points a game in western A games. Not bad for even for class A. The knock on him is his defence as well as being very streaky. shooter - He has also had a few 9 point games this season.

Simms is gone, others may follow. I hope one of them is not the
7' Aussie.

:thumb:  Preaching to the choir brother!!!! I am intrigued by Vanderjagt too. I am frustrated with Swift being so gifted but not yet living up to his skills. Then again, he is only a Sophomore.

It is too bad Vandy didn't listen to Tinks and take advantage of the redshirt season. I don't think he realized how big of an adjustment he needs to make on the physical aspect of playing D1.

I am hoping Vanderjagt is understanding of Tinkle's advice to Redshirt when all is said and done. I would hate to see the GRIZ lose him over something like this. IMHO WT gave him the best advice. I am sure most mid major and above programs would have done the same as WT has. Anyone that knows Vanderjagt well, please encourage him to stay. Griznation wants this kid to stay!!!!

I haven't heard a yhing about him leaving. I sat near him at the Sac game and he was very supportive of his teammates. I think that someone is just trying to start rumors and stir things up. It happens every time the Griz are struggling a little. A couple quality wins and all that talk disappears.

Wait a minute, you mean to tell me that looking at JCs, especially from CA, isn't the worst thing a Montana college could possibly do? I was under a different impression after spending several years on this board.

I'm not a huge fan of loading up with JCs. That seems to be the Pat Kennedy quick fix. That said, adding 1 or 2 kids from the JC ranks that are quality human beings and on course to graduate with everyone else works for me.

BozGriz: please use your same theory on MSU bringing in JC's in football for UM bringing them in for Basketball? pick a theory

and for the record: Andre Fuller was not a JC
