You know that every complaint about her is just being written off as coming from a 'griz football fan pissed about negative coverage of their holy football team', even though she really is a terrible, biased reporter
Well considering GymRat is an MSU football fan before a Griz football fan it would appear her continued writings are now branching out across both fan bases in the state.
Also - my major qualm is with the mishandling of the Baken story, not the Griz football coverage. I haven't heard enough proof from either side to objectively say that Florio is completely wrong on her viewpoint on those articles. It's still a valid perspective, in my opinion.
She crossed the line on a few things, but overall - I can at least understand that the Griz football predicament does have some legs and her angle on the story does deserve coverage. Is she being completely fair to the story? No. But there is such a shroud of mystery around the whole story that I don't know how you could report the story without holes here an there.
BUT, the Baken story was a totally off-base. Not only was the original story a jump-to-conclusion of the worst kind, but then she doesn't even have the integrity to redact or correct herself! Every news outlet will make mistakes on reporting, as it isn't always easy to gather all the information before getting a breaking story on the wire. But there should be some practices in place to mitigate this from happening. And when it does happen, it should become the highest priority to correct these stories and make the situation right. This STILL hasn't happened over at the Missoulian. The original article is fully intact, without edit or update. On top of that, it is still trending as one of the most popular articles on the website! That story actually lists above the follow up story! Simply unacceptable by anyone's standards.
I really don't want to turn this thread into a Griz footbal vs Florio argument. Because that is a tangent that turns this into an argument based on opinions and emotions. I'd rather focus on what happened with the Baken story because that is an obvious example of why her style of journalism should not be allowed to continue with the Missoulian. It is reckless and irresponsible. It leads to an unfair damaging of reputations, both individuals and the community. This is a damage that cannot be easily repaired or restored either! How many people out there only saw the Facebook post, Huffington Post, or Missoulian article and that has become their perception of reality?
To me, it is almost as bad as Baken making up the story in the first place. He is one individual and his word can become discounted just as quickly as the original story spread. But the Missoulian carries weight. It is a reputable source that people trust. It must be above the quick-draw news stories that draw attention at the risk of being incorrect. I personally feel that the Missoulian is not taking this responsibility seriously, and Florio has been at the center of the majority of these situations.
Again, Fire Florio.
Can we start a new bumper sticker?
Remove the Florio. Restore the paper.
