Thurs: WSU at UM

This is sad.... the one game that the fans come out to a game.... we shit down our leg..... lets look forward to another season of empty stadiums.... This team doesn't deserve that either... they have been playing hard all year and have had a great streak of conference wins.... bad timing.......... lets go and beat weber in the BSC tourney!!!!

Well, it would certainly appear as though the tournament's going to be in Ogden. But I guarantee this: The Griz will play better in the next meeting. Tonight Weebs cannot miss and the Griz can't hit.

Hey UM, How's the first loss at home feel

You have a quality team. You should leave it at that.

That's a hell of a post, dude.

Now, put Mommy's computer away and go get your jammies on and get ready for bed.

I am disappointed in the loss, but not in the team. They played hard. The difference was Weber State shooting lights out from way DOWNTOWN, and us not being able to hit from the outside. I do have a few observations.

(1) Qvale was causing problems for Weber State and was the most effective big we had tonight. Granted he missed a few easy shots. However, he was creating shots or getting fouled. I would not have pulled him the 2nd half and continued to feed him. What happened to getting the ball inside in general? McGillis was causing some problems inside early too. Defense was also much more effective with Qvale in there. We were struggling and he was a bright spot. The hot hand or mismatch philosophy has to apply to bigs just as much as guards.

(2) Speaking of guards, Stauds was as off as we have ever seen his shot tonight. I would have given Michael Taylor more minutes and shots tonight the 2nd half too. Taylor was the more effecient and effective 2, 3 swing player tonight. That includes McGillis. I think we should have gone with the more effective players tonight. Meaning rotation of CET, AJ, Michael Taylor, and Qvale getting the majority of minutes in the 2nd half. It seemed like they were the only guys that looked comfortable out there tonight. Hasquet, Sharp, Stauds, and McGillis were very disappointing and off tonight.

(3) We really missed Selvig's length and versatility tonight, especially defensively. He is also a much better ball distributor and mismatch offensively. We are definitely a better and deeper team with Selvig.

(4) Weber State is scary good with a very bright future too. Bullinger and Lilliard both are Freshman with all conference games. I feel Lilliard has a legit shot at the NBA. I hope Tinks learned something on developing young talented players tonight. We have a boat load of them, and yes I feel it will be crucial for the GRIZ to get minutes for the likes of Cherry, Woods, and Hutchison as soon as we know they are or are not redshirting. Our incoming Freshman are as highly rated as Lilliard and Bullinger were when they were recruited. Those 2 are Weber State's present and future.

As long as Rahe coaches and those 2 are at WSU they will be a pain in our asses for the next 3 years. We bettter get them in the tournament this year. These guys can and will only get better.

Despite the loss, I love this team. I just hope it rejuvenates them and Tinkle notices some things I did regarding inside play, and the play of Taylor and Qvale in particular. On to ISU now, GO GRIZ!!!!!!!!

I love when Webers fans get cocky, remember football, how'd that work out for you. Thats right you stayed at home and watched us play for a National Championship. Odds are this year we hoist trophy, on your court. :D :D

Come on GRIZNATION, lets not stoop to his level! Fact is they beat us twice soundly this year in basketball. I hate the cockiness too, but as far I am concerned, they earned the right so far. With that said though, the BSC tournament is for anyone to take, and if that happens to not be WSU, I guess that will teach them.

Kind of ironic we are jumping him for being cocky, yet is it not every bit as cocky coming back with something like we we will hoist the trophy? I do not like the cockiness on either side or any sport. Is it expecting too much for us all learn to be good winners and gracious in loss?

Congrats to WSU for the W tonight and clinching the right to host the tournament. Congrats on getting hot from 25 damn feet. Odds are, most games many would be saying they forced alot of long shots. Ironic, when they hit those shots they were not forced and were not bad shots. Yet ask Portland State when those shots are not falling it changes things for the worse awfully fast.

Not nearly enough production from the starters. Only AJ was in double figures. Jordan really seemed to lose his aggressiveness in the 2nd half. I think TInks is being too patient with Stauds on nights like he had tonight. At this point, I think the Griz are better with either CET or Taylor in at the other guard position. Still, 10-4 in conference :) and a huge game against ISU on Saturday. Weber is the real deal. They were easily the better team tonight.

The game with ISU takes on added importance now since they are the 4th place team in the conference. PSU already has a split with them. Montana needs to get a split so that that is not the tie-breaker should PSU tie Montana.

Same thing holds true with the UNC game. PSU already holds a sweep over them. Montana doesn't look good in tie-breaks with PSU, so they had better just take of business unless they want to play 3 tournament games.

Rahe is an amazing coach who is head and shoulders above the rest of the Big Sky coaches. He had only four players returning that had any college experience. He spent 2 years under Giacoletti at Utah and 13 under Stew Morrill. His team this year is all but new and he has really got production out of them since BYU beat them by 30 on Dec 3. They have won 15 of 19 games since. After that game he said his team gave in to adversity and that will not happen again. He demands discipline and works fundamentals tirelessly and has the respect of his players. One of his biggest strength is he knows when to nurture and when to torture. He knows his team isn't the fastest or tallest but they have a thorough understanding of the team concept which separates them from the pack. They were picked 5th in the Big Sky this year and rightly so. I can see him going to a bigger program soon.
