Thurs: WSU at UM

So what could keep anyone from being at this game if you could! Yeh I know Tinks can't coach and we're a football town etc etc Check it out: When is the last time a Grizzly team has won seven consecutve BSC games? Try Blaine's 94=95 NIT team and twice before that up to 1980. That has zilch to do with Thursday night but a little help - off your butts - would be appreciated and deserved.
The Griz may or may not win the regular league but as much as football has been respected for what they have accomplished, this win streak is vindication for Tinks and staff doing it their way and reaping the benefit. Raise some Hell North Endzone Wackos and be a factor ... This team deserves your suppport and will respond to it.

Good post Mick.

While I can understand student seating frustrations and work commitments for some, I'm not going to miss this game for the world. I'm pumped for this game, can't wait to experience Grizzly mania indoors this Thursday (I'm used to the outdoor football kind).

The players deserve a large, boisterous crowd...they've earned that. GO GRIZ

Let's not be too hard on these Weber scholars' spelling.

This was posted in another thread:

2008 Academic Progress Report scores (2006-07 School year data)

School, Multiyear APR and Percentile Rank Within Sport
Montana - 946 - 60th-70th :)
EWU - 940 - 50th - 60th
PSU - 920 - 20th - 30th
No Col - 916 - 20th - 30th
NAU - 898 - 10th - 20th
ISU - 892 - 1st - 10th
MSU - 876 - 1st - 10th
Sac St - 855 - 1st - 10th
Weber - 853 - 1st - 10th

As for the game, should be a fun atmosphere for a good game. I don't know anything about Weber's team other than they win, but I don't see anybody on their team (or any other Big Sky team) stoppin AJ, who is going to be the conference MVP.

You don't stop AJ...you just try and stop everyone else.

AJ was the leading scorer of the game in the Ogden game. WSU still won by almost 20. You try and stop Jordan and a few others and you have a chance. Though double teaming AJ when you can helps too.

Box score from Ogden game:

One of the reasons why teams have had trouble stopping Weber is there isn't one or two players that make em win. McCoy for example had 3 points last Thurs in a 17 pt win over EWU.

WSU 6-0 on the road...UM 6-0 at home.

WSU 8 straight wins
UM 7 straight wins

Kinda crazy to think there is a chance for WSU/UM to be co-champs in both sports this year. I'm just hoping we don't have an "EWU" game in bball.

At least your basketball team has tradition on it's side. However, GRIZNATION will not be upset if your basketball team has an EWU game in them. Would it be asking too much for CATS to knock you guys off after the GRIZ do? As long as the GRIZ have a chance to host, I will be rooting for whoever plays WSU.

Good post, Mick. Everyone in Missoula should be pumped about this game.

Well its kind of a basketball Rivalry, UM fans dont like Weber the Same Weber fans dont like UM. Its going to be a great game, with the 2 players that could end up getting the BSC MVP award.

One team has not lost a conf game at home, and one team hasnt lost a conf game on the road.

Doesnt get any better than this.

WILDCATS VS GRIZZLIES

It was a far better rivlary when Neil McCarthy was on the bench at Weber. Love him or hate him, the guy could coach and loved to come to Missoula and get it on with the Griz crowd. Not sure anything tops Joe Cravens bunny hop that made ESPN though. I wish I had a tape of that.

Over the history of the Big Sky one would assume there must have been a good rivalry with WSU and UM.

Especially with only 4 charter members remaining. I wonder if I asked a WSU bball fan thats been around since back in the day would tell me it was all about ISU and UM? Probably...

I'll admit, I hated Neil McCarthy, but he always had good teams. I'll never forget the time we had a pizza delivered to him on the sideline. I've never seen ANYone look that confused during a basketball game.

I was there, it was classic. And back then, it was an original gag. Now everybody's doing it.

That must have been pretty sweet to be around in the 70's and 80's to see Big Sky games...McCarthy has the most wins of any WSU coach. He's also the only coach we've had that stuck around for 9 years.

Also that was when we used to fill the Dee on a regular basis...

Anyone remember Ben Howland the UCLA coach during the McCarthy days? He was on the squad.

Also, knowing my Big Sky history, were UM fans mad to see WSU beat Jud Heathcoate in his last game he coached in college? 1995 NCAA Tourney, Michigan State. I would assume many of you would remember the coach of the '75 Griz.

I don't think you'll find anybody on here who begrudges Weber any of the success it has had in the NCAA tourney. I sure as hell don't.

To be honest, during the regular season I root for whatever combination of W's and L's that benefit the GRIZ the most. GRIZ or no GRIZ, I always pull for the BSC representative in the NCAA tourney. This year though, I just hope it is not PSU. I am very turned off by the cockiness and arrogance from a few of their players this year. It will be hard for me to pull for them this year.

When the GRIZ do not represent the conference, I always pull for who will represent the conference in the tourney best. This year, if the GRIZ do not win it, I will be hoping for WSU to make the tourney.
