Thurman Woods - Dominguez High School

WOW.....very impressive...... Welcome Thurman....hopefully Myron comes with you!!!

2008 Fullcourt Press Fall Hoops Classic
All-Tourney Team
All-Tourney – First Team
Thurman Woods 6’5” Sr. Dominguez (Compton CA) (MVP)
One Of the nation’s top sleepers, Woods was an “impact” player all weekend long – scoring inside at a very high clip, showing off a potent mid-range game and flushing down thunderous dunks in transition. Very good student (getting serious attention from Ivies like Columbia) had 25 points/12 boards in a semi-final win over California Select. Top 100-150 caliber prospect with potential to be higher.

Past MVPs of this event include Paul Pierce (Boston Celtics), Rashard Lewis (Orlando Magic), Tayshaun Prince (Detroit Pistons) and Tyson Chandler (New Orleans Hornets).

Could you remind us who this post player, who has verbaled to the Griz, is? Thanks in advance.

Maybe we should start a running post/sticky where we can update 2009 Griz recruits who verbal/sign.

Oh, and welcome to the Griz, Thurman! You'll love it here!

Go Griz! Maul'em!

Gallatingriz, that player is Eric Hutchinson. 6'9" pf/c. here is the egriz link, and go to espn.com basketball recruiting. Pull up WA recruits. He is ranked as an 84 or 85 nationally. His verbal has been confirmed as well.

BTW, Welcome aboard Thurman. You are coming to a great city, university, and thanks to you a program with a very bright future. I hope you bring your team mates too.

Thanks, mgr!

So, so far, we have a verbal from Hutchinson - 6'9" 215 lbs., the #46th ranked center in the country with a grade of 85 and Woods - 6'5" 190 lbs., the #93rd ranked PF in the country with a grade of 79. Those #s are courtesy of the ESPNU Basketball Recruiting link. Wow, that is some good news for the future of the Griz Men's BB program. Hopefully, they sign next month and will be very excited about what lies ahead for them at the U of M. Welcome to both!

Go Griz! Maul'em! 8-)

Hopefully Myron Green will soon follow....adding an 82 ranked player to this bunch......does anybody know what his status is?? Bringing in two talented player who played all through HS and AAU together would be amazing!! i'm sure they have great chemistry on the court and would love to see that translate to Dalhberg.... maybe i'm getting greedy..... VERY EXCITED about Woods regardless....I see him not as a PF but as a nice slashing physical 3......he should really improve playin against McGillis in practice every day next year........the FUTUR IS BRIGHT!! great job Tinks!! :D :D :D :D

Alright, is this something Tinkle is allowed to confirm?

Tinkle can't comment on any player that hasn't signed a letter of intent. Wait till second wednesday of november for that when athletes can sign their letter of intent. This is just a verbal.

So with Shawn Stockton and Eric Hutchinson, the question begs to be asked, What kind of an point guard to post combo will Stocky and Hutch be? (Couldn't resist) 8-) :D

No, he can't. The kid can announce he has verballed, but nothing official can come from Tinks until early signing day.

Thanks for the video athome. I am really pumped for this kid to get here. I wonder what more pleasant surprises Tinks has for this recruiting class? All videos for all recruits would be appreciated. I think he will make for a great SF that can get physical too.

Thurman, how close is your teammate close to commiting? What are the chances of a few other SO Cal kids coming up here too?

Welcom to GRIZNATION Thurman and Eric.

Unless I'm mistaken, Thurman Woods has only given a verbal to the Griz? He's being pursued by a whole bunch of solid programs who will only increase their intensity to get the kid to sign with them when the official signing period begins next month. I think it's very dangerous to shine the spotlight on a prospective player who may draw more attention than ever. Heaven knows, Tinkle's casual attitude is not shared by Hauck who practically has to see a recruit in class before he's willing to acknowledge he is a Griz. :?:

Tinkle has had nothing to do with Woods announcement. By NCAA rule Tinkle can not. I would also like to point out that Woods commitment is on at least 3 recruiting web sites. While it is true that there is nothing preventing another school from recruiting Woods, at this level most coaches once they hear a kid has committed the pretty much stop recruiting him, mainly for monetary reasons. They mat spend a few bucks on phone calls, emails, or mailings most do not want to waist limited resources on a kid. I would also like to say that that I would bet a minimum 95% of all kids who commit with in 4 weeks of the signing period end up signing. Of that remaining 5% I would say most of those do not for really out of the ordinary reasons coach quiting (like what is happening at Arizona right now) of eligibility issue.

Nothing is written in stone but this looks pretty solid.
