Looking more to me like our future success at the quarterback position may depend on a quality transfer.

Really? Seriously? You're telling me that we can't make something out of one of the four or five guys we have now? I don't like our history with transfers. I still have UMASS semi nightmares.
Yeah, Drew Miller, Brandon Neil and Craig Ochs were real disasters. You have to get the right transfers.

True 'nuf, but Swogger and Roper.... But back to my question, we really can't make something out of one of the QBs currently on the roster? Doesn't say much for our program does it?

IMO Swogger was way better than Roper. Swogger led the Griz to a semifinal game, I believe Lex was out of commission that season in 2006. I also remember seeing a quote by Ochs that he believes Swogger would have had been a great quarterback if he would have had two seasons with the Grizzlies instead of just his senior year. But to answer your question I believe the Griz can make somthing out of one of the QBs on the roster..AB or Brady G. SSH and TM are adequate but I don't see them taking the Griz deep into a playoff run. Of course I don't know that about AB and BG either but I'm excited to see both those other guys get a shot at starting next year. Sring ball and fall camp with be interesting to watch with those 4.

I'm still pissed at Swogger. Can't argue with anything you've said re. the current crop. Pretty clear there's going to be a competition for 2013. My question had to do with the suggestion that we had to go out and find another transfer.

I don't think the Griz do. TM and SSH may not be the long term answer but with the 4 the Griz have I think one of them will emerge above the others. Of course if JJ is aquitted and returns to the Griz for 2013 (not sure that will happen at all) I think that would make it even more interesting. Would he be reinstered as the starter with it his job to lose or would a year off make him somewhat rusty and he might have to play his way back to starting? I'll leave that to more knowledgeable people to debate. Your question is a good and interesting one though.

I have often wondered if Bergquist would have improved much given that extra season (2006) to start an entire season. I heard people saying that Hauck told Swogger he would start if he transferred here. I don't know if that is true or if Swogger and Berquist had a true QB competition in the fall of 2006. BW and others on here would no the story behind that probably.

That's the legend I've heard too, that BH made a commitment to Josh and he was sticking by it. I've wondered too, if Cole could've beat him out given the opportunity. From what I remember, probably not.

HOLY SH1T! Please PLease PLEASE tell me where I said SSH has any skill running the ball????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? I would say that he has proven he is not a running qb.
What I said was that with our o-line and our running backs we can run well enough to establish the running game, but also with SSH we have the ability to throw the ball as well. If you have watched with SSH in the game we have almost completely stopped with the having SSH run the option and are running the inside zone more like a straight dive and the outside zone like a stretch with SSH completely turning his back to the LOS on the outside zone read, i.e. he is not reading ANYONE. They are only asking him to run the option 1 or 2 times a game. I do not believe that SSH is THE answer, but I believe he gives us a lot better chance then TM. With TM the ONLY thing we can do is run the ball. And again, I would have absolutely no problem with TM swapping in and running spread option, as the situation dictates.
My personal belief, from the educated opinions of more than a few people WHO ARE NOT posters on this board, is that the best QB on this team is #3 on the depth chart. But until he plays who knows.

:thumb: eloquent/knowledgeable. Beats clichés every time.

JJ will win in February and be cleared. Not sure he would ever suit up again, but he is our only real option to go the distance.
