So, you are also an inside the box thinker..when you end up not getting a real job, might I suggest the Internal Revenue Service? I think you would fit in quite well..

Just so you know, my love for you has grown even stronger..I think we have something special here..
Are you growler1's brother? If you are to lazy to write correctly, I would hate to see you at your job.

I also use it to denote a level sarcasm..Wait, should I have only used one period there?

Heil Grammar Nazi..

Grammar is important. For example: capitalization is the difference between helping your friend Jack off a horse and helping your friend jack off a horse.

Also, what sort of balance do you use to level sarcasm?

to answer the question, he's still in the type of book learnin' stage to which you were referring. it works well as a way to avoid work learnin'.

Sorry, Psych, you're incorrect. A comma should precede and follow "Jack." :)

Actually Grizzoola, the particular commas that you recommend are not required to be grammatically correct. Rather, your suggestion is to use the commas for pause. Here, capitalizing Jack implies the pause and makes the comma after it unnecessary. Regardless, it was funny.

I'll answer the question. First, I definitely read 200 pages of journal articles everyday. Second, I also conduct research and publish my findings (Wilkins & Rawson, 2010; 2011; in press), which has been partially funded by JSMF and DOE. Third, I also teach undergraduate students to hopefully think critically, but also I teach Quantitative Statistical Analysis, Cognitive Psychology, Honors General Psychology, and I've taught Writing in Psychology.

With that written, I'm the first to tell you that I'm not the best writer, especially the first draft (e.g., most eGriz posts). However, I know some editing tricks that make my writing more clear.

Finally, how has this thread not been moved? :thumb:

Argh, you're right, I'm insecure because in our country today many people seem to think that knowledge is a bad thing. So, although I understand that the book learnin statement is supposed to be funny, I don't find self imposed ignorance funny, I find it dangerous.

This has not been moved, because the internet gods are allowing us to continue handing you enough rope for proper strangulation..

Most people don't know this: Our rules for punctuation came not from cranky English teachers & professors. They came from the printers who had to type-set the stuff coming to them from the writers. At that time, you could do just about anything you wanted & have it printed. The printers said, "No more." Standardization came from guys who did the work of making manuscripts fit for public consumption. It was really making printing more efficient & well, cost effective. It also aided in reading, since the public, once attunded to the "new" way of doing things, accepted it. So, that's how it's taught in schools & colleges today.

To see how this was a vast improvement, just compare some of the posts on this board to, say, Time magazine. End of lesson.

Magazine titles and the name of newspapers should be italicized.
Mea culpa. It should have been: Time Magazine. You would make a good printer.
