"They don't deserve it"

If there are multiple 7-4 teams and the Griz join them Saturday, what makes the Griz team any less deserving?

Well, three of those teams could be Cal Poly, Northern Colorado and Weber State. I'm pretty sure their supporters would tell you what makes them more deserving than UM is that THEY BEAT THE GRIZ HEAD TO HEAD. I'm fine with the Griz getting in, and I agree with Brint that the word "deserve" is hard to define. But let's not pretend that it is illegitimate to raise the issue of FAIRNESS if it plays out with 4 BSC teams at 7-4 and 2 others already in. I doubt we see 6 BSC teams in the field. :coffee:

Really? When did the Griz play Weber? I missed that game.

Also, either Northern Colorado or Cal Poly loses this weekend, so that team is out of discussion. Griz didn't play Weber. If you look at all the playoff predictions coming from FCS sources and message boards, almost all of them have the Griz in with a win on Saturday, Craig Haley is the only one who has them as one of the last teams out prior to this weekends play.

http://www.nobowls.com/

That site has 5 Big Sky teams predicted to make it in. Weber, Montana, Cal Poly, North Dakota and EWU. I believe his bracket has a lot of merit, assuming those teams win this weekend in Weber, UM and CP.

"Since its inception in 2008, NoBowls has correctly predicted 129 of the 136 teams selected to participate in the FCS postseason. Resident bracketologist Erik Pitzer strives to provide weekly bias-free predictions heavily rooted in the same criteria set forth by the NCAA selection guidelines."

Here's the thing...
If we beat the Cats and get in I'm not so sure I'd want to play us. We are terribly inconsistent, but we do have a team that, if they could put a good game together in all 3 phases, could play right with many teams in the country. We haven't exactly shown that we can do that, but the potential is there. I hope we get a shot.

We seem to forget this team, when it's on, is damn dangerous. We have posted more than 40 points three times, and more than 60 three times. (Almost 70). I'm not sure we have done enough to get into "The Dance", but if we do, you are right, I would not want to be any team that has to play us.

Oh, if only I had a few minutes to spare so I could cut and paste years worth of posts from this very forum that have alluded to other 7-4 teams not deserving to get in... That being said, I have no doubt the griz get in at 7-4, "deserved" or not (8th in the conference). The NCAA likes the money and UM generates more than any other FCS school.

You looking for an apology... :egriz:

The initial thread from BW was so on the money. If the selection committee determines that our GRIZ are worthy then there is no debate whether they deserved or "earned" it. I'm hoping desperately for a big win this week that cements the deal. However there should be no whining ( yaa right on this board) if the selection committee finds them lacking. When you are on the bubble you are on the bubble.

But.............. I'm really tired of this phony morality play from some. Just because we have had some very tough games in which many elements have not met expectation isn't that the same for every team on the bubble right now? The playoffs are important for recruiting reasons and going one or possibly two games in will make a huge difference in the 2017 class. Sober up boys and girls. This is the nature of the game and we deserve this as much as any other team gnashing their teeth right now

Thanks for clearing up my mistake about Weber State. All I was trying to say was that any BSC opponent with the same record and beat the Griz would have an understandable gripe if UM got in and they didn't.
That situation might not even arise. Great. Go Griz! :thumb:

At this point, it's all about the 7-4 "bubble pool" (see my various postings with the numbers, looked at different ways).

We rarely root against any team (still, I can remember a time with FBS Miami ... well never mind). We'll at least be neutral on the kitties when they are representing the Big Sky or the state of Montana against some other team.

However, this week we are definitely rooting for the Griz by rooting against all of the (numerous) other 6-4 teams around the country. That's why I included all the significant games involving 6-4 teams in the "Key FCS Games" thread (which a mod kindly pinned). Every other 6-4 team that gets knocked off narrows the bubble pool ... and that improves the chances that UM will get a bid after they stomp the kitties.

So ... GO GRIZ! :egriz:
