There are 5-8 really top in-state players each year. We used to get most of them. Now the Cats dominate in-state recruiting. I think a big reason, other than their recent success, is the ability of their relatively younger coaching staff to relate to today's high school kids. Just another reason for a re-set.
I disagree they are dominating in state recruiting. I agree there are only 7-8 MT studs worthy of a legit D1 scholarship in MT each year. This year holds true to that. 2 of them (Harris & Anderson) are going FBS.
The Griz have 2 of the remaining 5 (Opitz and Oven) and the Cats have the other 2 (Jones & Taylor). A couple studs remaining are Tierney and Carter so we will see where that lands.
After those guys, it’s partial schollie guys who
need to develop and have a chance to be really solid. I don’t consider them having more partials than us as dominating as there are a number of those guys who didn’t even get a Griz offer….so there was no competition on who to choose.
