There is only one man the Griz need to pursue for the next HC...

I said it in the other thread about who Montana might entice to become our next head coach...but I feel that after 4 pages of bickering...this subject needs a fresh start. So here it is....

THERE IS ONLY ONE PERSON MONTANA NEEDS TO PURSUE TO BE OUR NEW HC NEXT YEAR, AND HIS NAME IS....

SUPER DAVE DICKENSON!!!

The best of all time. A proven winner at multiple levels. A leader. A coach. A hero. What do we have to do to get Dave to come Montana?

Would he want to come back to the states and live the college life? A lot of guys are not fond of all the recruiting and traveling that has to be done. I like the idea though.

as much as I admire Dave, I feel like this would be yet another step toward "getting back to the way things used to be" by revisiting the glory days. It simply doesn't work. see bobby 2.0

Yeah, what could go wrong. Lets hire the former Griz legend who has never coached in the states, let alone in college. He's never recruited, and has no real experience with what it would be like to manage a team filled with 18-22 year old kids. Completely different than coaching professionals.

Leave Dave where he is in Canada. he has a nice thing going and really does not have that much to gain by coming to UM and maybe becoming successful, but everything to lose. Tons of guys have tried to go and coach their alma mater only to have it blow up in their face.

This, however, would be a really on brand (Idiotic) hire for Haslam. WE DO NOT NEED SOMEONE WHO HAS PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE AT MONTANA. PLAYER, COACH OR OTHERWISE.

Well...I would disagree with you on some of what you said. Football is Football...and when you get to a certain point in your career...you don't have anything to lose. If he can handle the pro's he can handle young men. I do agree with you that the next coach doesn't have to be from Montana...but it wouldn't hurt either.

The suggestion of DD becoming the next Griz head coach is floated out there every time there is a coaching change. If it was going to happen, it would have already.

There is definitely a very stark difference in being a professional coach Vs a college coach. College coaching is a 24/7/365 job. There is no offseason . If you want to be successful, you are on the job every damn day of the year. That is a schedule and time commitment that he is not prepared for and most likely something he is not interested in as he has a family. There is a reason certain coaches stick to the NFL when they could easily make more money in college. Way more work.

The formula he used to hire Stitt.

Yep, it went wrong once so thats enough evidence to never do that again... Not to mention Stitt got ran out of town before his recruits were even upperclassman. Not saying he would have been successful, but he was not given a true chance to be. Hauck 2.0 has not really been all that more successful than he was either.

I would love to have Super Dave take charge...but, remember the last time the UofM hired a legend to coach a team with a ton of history? Yeah, she sued the university and this place became a shitshow. That's the risk of hiring someone like DD.

I believe he's said in multiple interviews over the years that he has no interest in coaching here.

What would be the draw for Dave Dickenson to coach at Montana? He's a successful HC/GM, he's probably making $500,000, dealing with pro athletes rather than the headaches of college kids and the pain in the ass NCAA. His wife and kids are Canadian and he lives year-round in one of the nicest cities in the world; a population greater than all of Montana with all the benefits that brings, 90 minutes from Canmore/Banff, an international airport, etc, etc, etc. Versus- "He played QB for this University 28 years ago.
