The Wyoming Game

I went back and took a look at the FCS teams who have played Wyoming the last couple of years, and here are the results of those games:

WYOMING
2013:
Wyoming (5-7) vs. Northern Colorado (1-11) - W 35-7
(Fun Tidbit: Wyoming's last meeting against Northern Colorado was in 1949.
Wyoming won 103-0)

2012: Wyoming (4-8) vs. Cal Poly (9-3, Playoff Team) - L 24-22

2011: Wyoming (8-5, Bowl Game) vs. Weber State (5-6) - W 35-32

2010: Wyoming (3-9) vs. Southern Utah (6-5) - W 28-20

2009: Wyoming (7-6, Bowl Game) vs. Weber State (7-5, Playoff Team) - W 29-22

2008: Wyoming (4-8) vs. North Dakota State (6-5, 1st year payoff eligible) - W 16-13

2004: Wyoming (7-5, Bowl Game) vs. Appalachian State (6-5) - W 53-7

2003: Wyoming (4-8) vs. Montana State (7-6, Playoff Team) - W 21-10

And the last time the Griz played Wyoming:
1997: Wyoming (7-6) vs. Montana (8-4, Playoff Team) - W 28-13

So in the last 17 or so years, the only FCS teams Wyoming has blown out have been Northern Colorado (2013) and Appalachian State (2004). The rest of the matchups have been very close.

How do you think the game will go next year when we take on Wyoming?

If Wyoming's new starter struggles and the Mick and Kefense aren't too stubborn with the playbook, this game could be close. I still think Wyoming wins, but I can't see this being like recent UM FBS games at Tennessee, Oregon and Iowa. I think with Jordan Johnson, Montana can hang in this game for all four quarters.

At least seven months out, this game reminds me a lot of when the 1995 Griz went to Wazzu. The Cougs were not very good on defense, the Griz were loaded on offense. In the end, Wazzu's depth and physicality won out, but it was a great game.

A close game would be nice. I just hope it's not a 2013 MSU/SMU type close game.

This game was a blowout a month ago.. Brett Smith was still a Cowboy and the Cowboy offense had only lost one real piece of a top 25 offense, and that was a WR. Now with Brett Smith gone.. who knows. We might be leaning on a JUCO transfer from New York to start or a true freshman. Wyoming has had luck w/ the last two true freshman starters at QB, both of them became Mountain West freshman of the year. A repeat of that would be nice. Wyoming will have a terrific ground game this year, returning a 1000 yard back, and one coming off injury. Offensive line will be more physical. A seven minute drive from the offense in Laramie will absolutely destroy defenses. Bohl has put together a great recruiting class considering he didn't start recruiting (outside of what Kaligis was doing before Bohl's arrival) until after NDSU finished their championship game. Going to be fun, people are really excited for Bohl and he's selling the program hard.

The Griz would win this game hands down if it were not coach D vs. coach B, however, D and company are going to get schooled which means the Griz will lose by double digits. Hope I am wrong but this coaching staff has not proven they can handle any legit competition when it comes to quality coaches combined with anywhere near quality talent on the field.

Man, I wish I could go to this game. Never seen the town, campus, or stadium. Unfortunately, I only have time for one game, and would rather it be at home.
Besides, a few of my soft SoCal friends want to repeat when we came to a home game in 2012. One dude fell in love with Missoula after he made out with a stripper while she was on duty and received an "anything goes" lap dance without paying taxes on it or ending up in jail.

Maybe not, but I like visiting those kinds of places.

Way to early to predict. Alot of moving parts to be polished at UM. However, I will say this. Bohl has certainly proved himself a winner and I think Wyo will adjust to his style of game very easily and very effectively. I felt better about the game before he moved to Wyo.
