The Stitt extension question

I’ve hired and fired for 32 years now and I totally agree.....either your all in or your not. Make a decision and live by it but to dance around it usually makes things worse. Haslem should realize that there is discourse in Griz Nation and his decision in the next few weeks will have a huge impact on this program going forward.

Haslem would have to be as much in denial as Hillary Clinton if he doesn't know the depth of discontent with the direction of the football program. And this poll is no way representative of vast majority of Griz fans. Message boards are always heavily skewed with cup half full fans that think things are getting better when they aren't. I have to go back to reading the Bobcat board before Ash was fired. They also did a poll on whether to keep Ash or fire him, and the majority voted to keep him. Good thing that message board posters don't call the shots on hiring.

To be honest, I am more worried about the apathy I am now seeing in our fan base than anything else!

Its also his job and in his best interest to have a plan and stick to it...where as fans we get to freak out every weekend and declare shit we really dont have a very good idea of.

I know whenever I talk to the general public about development projects they're always "experts" but really I'm just thinking the whole time..you have no damn idea what youre talking about.

Im guessing thats how Haslam feels with this whole debate lol.

Sure all ADs hate fan bases who rise up to question decisions that he makes. But that goes with the territory, especially at a school like Montana with a long history of winning big. If Haslam was the AD at Northern Colorado, I'm quite sure the pressure cooker would be much less.

And, pray tell, what would that plan be..... to go three years of not making the playoffs?

I feel he needs to be extended the 3 years. No I am not happy with his 3 seasons so far, however... he needs 5/6 years to recruit and implement his guys, period.

Anything less is a dis-service to both him and The University of Montana.

I believe UM will be successful if they allow the years needed above to recruit.

I'm certainly glad that I don't have Kent's job. I'm also grateful that my job never depended on the behavior and/or performance of 18-22 year old young men.

Griz program is mired in mediocrity. If Stitt is extended beyond this year the mediocrity will continue, and more time will be wasted.

A change is needed if Griz are to compete for another Big Sky Conference championship. BSC conference dominance will not return with mediocre coach Stitt. Bobcat fans want Stitt to remain in Missoula for as long as possible.

Total and complete bullshit. We have had two of the best recruiting classes, and another on the way, in recent Griz history. Why the f*ck can't people see that we will never compete with JMU or NDSU without top athletes. Stitt has been the major drawing factor and the players want to play in this system. STFU and give them time to do it.

Going back to the OP though...do you believe this is contingent on Stitt getting a DC and ST coordinator?

Let me get this straight - you are more worried about the apathy of the fan base than anything else? Interesting. Champions Center built, new turf, stadium is arguably best in FCS, fans still show up and are eager to see these kids do well and recruiting is exemplary. What are you really worried about? The fact that message board warriors hang their head because they live vicariously through the program? That you won’t be able to pound your chest as top fan of a “mediocre program” instead of a winning one ? Your worry about apathy says more about you than anything else. Realistic (apathetic for you) fans get it. The program is going to ebb and flow. The ebb came when Hauck went to the dance with a team called UNLV. Pflugrad got fired, Delaney tried to stabilize and now Stitt will rebuild. Calm down Francis. Stitt or a new coach makes no difference. Cleaning up the mess in aisle 5 is going to take a bit. By the way. If you really want to worry about something - worry about kids getting hurt, the enrollment numbers, college being affordable. The football program will be just fine

You’re so full of chit you are going to have to dunk your entire body (small brain included) in a hot tub of Clorox bleach. Stitt would need the talent of the Alabama starting five to have a chance to win a Big Sky Conference championship. He might not be able to do it even with the Alabama starting five!

Stitt is not FCS championship coach material. He is D2 and NAIA coaching material. Stitt lacks understanding of defensive football, is a poor evaluator of defensive coaching ability (hence hiring Semore to replace Gregorak—very stupid move). He has no understanding that his kooky offense, intended to wear out defenses, also wears out his own defense (which with a pitiful D coordinator does not bode well for consistent defensive success). Stitt teams are often poorly prepared, lack discipline, lack focus, have too many turnovers, bad special teams, penalties at critical times, and often do not produce when it counts.

I have seen enough after more than 2 ½ years of Stitt to see that he will not return the Griz to the promised land. After the next three games more Griz fans will recognize this, even if you do not.

I wish I was wrong about this because I had high hopes when Stitt came in after Engstrom devastated the Griz football program, but Stitt has been a big disappointment. I see no need to waste more time hoping he will work out. When you get older and more experienced you will learn that you need to cut your losses quickly.

If your life seems diminished, you are depressed and can barely function when the Griz are not dominating all opponents every year, you probably need a new life. :coffee:

It will be interesting to see the attendance Saturday. Hope it’s loud and proud but the number of people trying to dump tickets might prove otherwise......Regardless go to the game and support the kids.

I haven't been a Stitt fan from day one but have kept my opinion in check. I do think the coach has recruited well and I've seen marked improvement in on field performance. However two glaring issues need to be addressed before any decision to retain or fire coach Stitt. One, there needs to be a change in the DC and two the ST coach just plain needs to go. I have enough faith in Kent Haslam that he will make the best decision.
And remember gang we have no guarantee that if a coaching change is made the next coach will be any more successful than Stitt.

No one has definitively answered the question: Does he WANT to be here? The rumor has circulated that he has no desire to be extended and is leaving on his own...

That would be the right thing for him to do.

Although, I’m sure that is a vicious rumor.

Where would he go, to Golden CO. high school.

I am not disagreeing with your view of the recruiting classes, but how in the heck would you know how good the classes are before many of them have even gotten on the field?

Answered this before , he does not want to come back that's why there has been no offer .
With 61 days left on your contract if you wanted to come back or if they wanted you back there would have been movement by now from one or the other

Do you have proof of this? Because it's been you mainly who have perpetrated this position....
