The scats did not win that game

Gentlemen....state college won the game. They were the best team on the field. Let's look forward to next year.

This post is so predictable. You forgot some points though:
-Our cupcake schedule
-Our weak OLine that will get demolished when we play someone good
-Our slow and ineffective receivers

You are right though. The "scats" did not win the game, Montana State University Bobcats did. I have been around long enough to know that the Grizzlies won't be down forever. I for one actually want them to be a good team again. I knew it would not be an easy game today for either side and I applaud the Griz team for their effort in this contest...as well as the fans for creating a rowdy environment that forced a lot of false starts on our OLine.

I would like for the Cats and the Griz to be the two top teams in the conference year in and year out. As for fans...there are classy ones and classless ones everywhere...sucks but that is the reality. As far as the officiating goes, anyone that watched more than a couple Big Sky football games this year knows that the refs botched a ton of calls in a ton of games. We were a victim of horrible reffing more than a few times this season. There were so many WTF moments this year that I just became accustomed to it. To say the Cats didn't win this game is ludicrous though. Both teams played pretty well, the Cats just played a little better.

Oh, and yes we are graduating a lot of key guys...mostly on defense (which concerns me), but the only offensive starters we are losing are Shaun Sampson (C) and Tray Robinson (RB). We lose Kruiz Siewing at WR too. The O should be pretty stout next year.

Not much to say here but WOW! You need to have a beer or two and get over it. It's been a long season, and there is much to do between now and game 1 in September. Just be glad you're not dealing with the loss of a family member today, or fighting to live because of a severe illness. It was only a game... leave it at that.

Good perspective. My hats to those boys who played their hearts out every game despite the circus that was going on around them. This program will be back and in my opinion sooner than some may expect. Congrats to the Cats on a hard fought win and a good season. However considering that game was in doubt until the final two minutes I think it shows that this years Griz team isn't as bad as the record shows. Keep the faith Griz Nation !

YES THEY DID. Enough of the whining. Move on. We were young and had an offseason from hell. Even with all we had against us, our kids played with the heart of a grizzly. We for beat by a better team. Better days are ahead.
 
Thought the refs called a good game. MSU was the better team this year and earned the win. Wish them the best in the playoffs. Ash has built a classy program there and cat fans should be proud of their team.

Quit being sore losers. Support our team. They played hard this year and have improved over the season. We will have a better and more experienced team next year. Support them. Don't complain and point fingers...
 
first quarter was microcosm of Griz season: Failure to score on makeable kick (like PATs) from 23 yards, then fumble, which turn into points.

D was incredible, and then shut down Frenchtown kid (55 yds on 22 carries), just like the old days (see archie Amerson, for one).

Pull for cats in playoffs? Absolutely ...NOT. I still remember '95 when Tom White and others made media statements about NOT wanting the Griz to win. They set the tone, I'm replaying it.

I don't confuse cats for Griz just because it's playoffs. I hope they lose as quickly as they can!

The point I was trying to make was not that the cats didn't win, which they did, was more that I feel like the Griz spent more time shooting themselves in the foot than anything else, and lost the game. At no point in that game did it feel like the cats were in total control of the game. We get 3 tries from inside the 10 to punch the ball into the endzone and can't even make any ground then miss what should have been a chip shot field goal. That's arguably 7 points we left on the field there then again later in the game another 3 points from a pulled field goal. We had every opportunity to win the game we just did not execute. Can't tell you how frustrating it was watching an immobile QB try to run an option and get caught in indecision when that play should have never been called in the first place given hyphenated's skill set. And that was a pretty good representation of the whole night. The cats gave us the opportunity to win the game, and we did not take it. We lost the game

To say anything but this was an ugly game would be nonsense. Yes I may have been ranting and wound up in post game emotion and frustration from our season, along with being pissed off with what I heard coming from some cat fans in that game, but still doesn't change my viewpoint.

I hear you man. I just went off on a rant myself because I got tired of hearing the same things for 20+ years! I was wondering WTF the Griz were doing with SSH running the option...although glad you kept trying. ;) And believe me, I've seen a lifetime of the Cats shooting themselves in the foot multiple times during games. I've been inclined to think that we shoulda/coulda/woulda won games against teams if not for the self inflicted mistakes. Then, after I calm down, I realize that part of being a good team is not making mistakes and if we make said mistakes, a loss is almost certainly assured.

Dude...no one could have run against the type of run stuffing D you guys were playing. :shock: That was a good defensive game plan. We're fortunate McGhee was able to find the hot reads against a lot of those stack the box blitz situations, because running the ball definitely wasn't happening.
 
This year's Brawl -o- Wild ended up to be no surprise, unfortunately. It was a condensed version of the Griz football season. The Griz didn't improve each game, as the previous zillion seasons we've witnessed. This was a winnable game gone by the wayside, like several other winnable games this year. All of the armchair analysis has been discussed ad nauseam this season, so no need to go there.

The cats will need to step it up a notch or two to advance. I'm not sure if the bye week will help this or work against them. Time will tell. I'll be rootin for them whomever they play, as they now represent our great state and I'm definitely not a Villanova or Stony Brook fan. It would be nice to see a EWU vs Montana State semi-final.

As a griz fan, I'm looking forward to next year, anticipating a great season. The Griz will have a roster full of talent that will be hopefully coached back into a dominating force.
 
This thread title is silly. It's time to congratulate the Cats and admit they were the better team this year, but not in all respects. IMO, if the teams traded QBs and all the rest remained the same, the Griz would win in a walk. I do not want to denigrate Smithwick-Hann, but McGee was the difference in the game. W/O him, MSUs run game was non-existent. That could be a problem in the playoffs, but I hope the Cats represent the state and the conference well. Their defense should keep them in the game against anybody, even when the offense struggles, as it will. And McGee will probably give MSU the edge over the Griz for one more year as well, then things will return to normal: Griz domination.
